#Caturday. What’s up?
Heads up, heads down #caturday.
Because the word is terrible and you likely need some charming goofiness, here are finalists for the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards. Every one would make a great profile avatar image. https://apple.news/AU8LKoqF_TMOG4M3vP2zz0Q
At the crosswalk outside BC & a prof I don’t know looks at me & says “Nice hat! I bet someone #knit that for you!” I slowly turn to her and say “Nope. I knit it for myself”. Boom! Just doing my part to challenge gender stereotypes.
Not to brag, but I still get carded… at the Star Market.
Last night was #robot arm class in Physical Computing & the #MakerSpace was electric with #CircuitPython #RaspberryPiPico #3dprinting arms battling to pick up candy! Learn such badassery at YouTube.com/@BuildWithProfG
Grace! I’m trying to #knit a sweater!
Mulch. Tackled about half of this today. And I can now tell that I am no longer young. Ow.
Hanta Virus getting way more coverage than is warranted. We’re seeing our democracy distorted with gerrymandering while voting rights are gutted. The rat disease is easily contained & not highly communicable. Don’t lose focus.
This was so kind. An exchange student who took both my #CircuitPython & my #SwiftUI apps courses made this for me. The flowers are 3D printed & the vase was laser cut. Lovely.
I am happily married, but suspect that screening on dating apps would be much easier if people were require to link their YouTube comment history.
Funk This! Now with #PixelBlaze frequency graph. Upgraded to #Adafruit Metro S3 and no more crashes reading directly from larger RAM vs intermittent crashes from SD cards. #CircuitPython gets down! Builds like this on my channel
Groove and hack on! https://youtube.com/shorts/AUMVj5I9mLs?si=sG3C9tEKsmdY-rWS
Timeline cleanse. This is a nudibranch from The Great Barrier Reed. Pic taken by the photographer who I was diving with. Taken almost 2 yrs ago but popped up on my phone today.
Janky attempt at first sweater, but as the half-shirt reenters youth fashion just in time to create parental angst for many of us w/teen girls, I am tempted to stop my sweater knitting here and wear this if my youngest bares midriff. “No double standards! No ageism!”
Woo hoo, sci-fi fans - the second book in the Captive’s War series by James S.A. Corey, the pseudonymous duo who wrote The Expanse, is out! “The Faith of Beasts”
Such a nice profile of the #AssistiveTech work being done by my Boston College Physical Computing students. https://www.bc.edu/content/bc-web/sites/bc-news/articles/2026/spring/the-class-that-makes-a-difference-.html May be interesting to folks in the #CSed #MakerSpace #RaspberryPi and #CircuitPython communities.
"Ghost Catch", an accessibility game I'm prototyping for the Campus School at Boston College, which allows children with severe motor restrictions to pass an animation back and forth. https://youtu.be/98N8J6Ri4L4 GitHub repo in description. #CircuitPython #MakerSpace #TechForGood #Accessibility #CSed
What the Flugelhorn?!? Who stole our Spring?!? (View from G-Force Labs home office). Slowed down so you can see those huge flakes.
Funk This! Build progress in #MakerSpace. Copper pads wired to cap touch board. Pulsing lights triggered. Sound plays. I still get hangs sometimes. Ordered a Metro S3 to see if i can move away from Pico with Cowbell to see if avoiding SD card helps. And I’ll add audio meter panels. #circuitpython
Putting my #Maker skills to work in this double-sided electronic sign for #NoKings. Any last minute suggestions before tomorrow’s protest? https://bsky.app/profile/gallaugher.bsky.social/post/3mi2uf5tcbk2f
Most expensive places for restaurant eating (I’m in #5). Even with high prices, I don’t know how restaurants hold on. COVID, Ozempic, and falling alcohol sales make a tough business a terrible one. https://apple.news/AFMktSbNjR-SHuU7FqU91tw
Experimenting with “always on” circuits from AliExpress so mobile phone chargers don’t auto-shutoff when microcontrollers are attached. This came with all jumpers on which heated enough to burn skin. Just 25mA wouldn’t keep alive. Just the 50mA jumper works & is not very warm. CPB can idle w/o battery off. #Maker
As seen on campus: What kind of event is cosponsored by “The Buddhism Club” & “The Episcopal Community” within a Jesuit University? “Debunk the Monks”
Oh, man, I love seeing so much Rockport, MA and Cape Ann in Widow’s Bay on Apple TV. One of my favorite places on the planet. And it is not haunted.
Tasting Table wrote about “Unique Airport Restaurants From Around The World” but they missed my favorite - Melbourne’s Biggie Smalls restaurant. I definitely did a double-take at this one.
Sweet McRib! The videos of humanoid robots chasing wild boars in Poland is just.. well, watch for yourself. https://futurism.com/robots-and-machines/humanoid-robot-chasing-wild-boars
If good wire management is your thing, avert your eyes! Current back of the “Funk This!” board.
Solution to Exam Part I: InkSpot - Pete Davidson & Post Malone's Tattoo Tracker. A #SwiftUI app challenging students to demonstrate C.R.U.D. in #SwiftData. https://youtu.be/GLEdeBUIVpg
Build a Flash Card app in #SwiftUI using #SwiftData. One of two apps my students needed to build w/o AI during their hands-on 2.5 hr. in-class 2nd mid-term. Use this as a test, (pause after each question shown, complete, and compare answers), or watch it as a refresher lesson that provides a "recipe" breakdown for thinking about basic SwiftData setup w/MockData. https://youtu.be/pyKM3FJhQWg #CSed, #ADE, #Swift

This week SNL will be hosted by Jack Black and Jack White. The episode will, however, be broadcast in color, as it usually is.

Amazon greater Boston area seems to have problems. Got an empty package yesterday and the wrong color item today. Almost never had earlier order issues.

The possible implications of the “Super El Niño” expected this year are horrifying. Although each time I see or hear the name all I can think is https://youtu.be/t_fGjrZfDt4?si=cL-LGRV-3xtDPOeT
I clearly told them my name was “John”
With a child looking to transfer I’m seeing how US college sticker pricing is absolutely not reliable & that you don’t know cost until you have an offer & aid letter. One school about 90k gave a 30k scholarship. Not expecting it from either financial or academics.
