I just made such a good salad. Tomato and peach and sourdough croutons with harissa cumin dressing. And some lettuce too. I am really happy about it, I didn’t expect that to be the best food experience of the day but I think it was.

Fontainebleau is beautiful and an absolutely unbelievable resource for climbers in Paris. It’s so wild to have world-class bouldering an hour (train ride!) from home.
Too bad there’s no sport climbing though…

Successfully made a bread! To be sure, some would argue that baking your own bread in France is like bringing coals to Newcastle. And this is true. But what if the commute is really pleasant?

I’ve been having some trouble keeping up with mastodon as I acclimate to a new job in a new city, but I’m still enjoying it here. If anyone has questions about my process of moving from the US to France, 1.5 months in, send them my way.
A good day in Paris
I’m back in San Francisco for a few days and good lord I missed it here. Didn’t even realize until I got a beer and fries at Rosamunde. Seeing the mission go by is really special. (Also my wife is here, that helps.)
Well I am just pleased as punch to say I’ll be speaking at NSSpain next week. Whew, they got the schedule out just in time! There are still tickets available, if me on stage is a motivator for you!

@clafou@mastodon.social I know, it would’ve been cool to be in the city too, but I can’t turn down a climbing day. Yesterday we actually had to drive because the RER line is down for maintenance 🙄 but I’ve been going to sectors that are short walks/hikes from the train. Crash pad goes on the back, a bit inconvenient but not too heavy.

@gravely@mastodon.social I can get by in French. Lucky coincidence: I’d been studying it for a few years before this happened. I am conversational if you’re forgiving, and I can certainly deal with shops and restaurants. However, in Paris everyone (particularly service people) speaks English so it’s not critical.

@gravely@mastodon.social I was hired by a company that sponsored an “extraordinary foreigner” work visa, where they attest that I have a skillset that’s hard to hire for locally. I had to send my college diploma to the French embassy as proof!
