A story teased in the Flickr Commons comments... read on.
"This is one of the last three intact windmills in Ireland of a type known as a Tower Mill". It was built by Nicholes Moran in 1846 and was re-thatched in 1908. Used up till 1936, it was re-constructed in 1952.
The long arm with a wheel on the end of it was used to turn the conical cap of the mill so that the sails faced the wind. It is a feature common in early windmills."

Too many images of underrepresented people and groups go unidentified in archival collections. For Black History Month in the United States we’re showcasing some of our curated collections which tell the stories of Black experiences.
In this first installment:
- Graduates from the Palmer Institute (NC)
- Mother Waddles and other women interviewed by the Schlesinger Library
