Are they expanded to ae, oe, ue, treated as a,o,u, as unique characters (ä,ö,ü) or something else? Similar question about ß: Is it expanded to ss, treated as s, ß or something else? I am not familiar with these word guessing games, so have no idea what they usually do. I do know that for crossword puzzles the expansions are used: abäß would become abaess. There seems to be no consensus for wordle like games.
