Look what fell right into my hand as I was walking to campus looking at my phone. Is this the universe telling me to touch grass?

Wow -- what a great set of replies! Thank you everyone. For #1, I see it on the browser version now and will look for a better app. For #2, I see the point about how QT changes the dynamic, but still really wish for the ability to weave in references (not dunk). It sounds like getting & pasting the link to the toot I want to quote is the way to go, as @mikarv@someone.elses.computer says.

@noleli@mastodon.social Thank you! I see that on the web interface but not the app I'm running. So, app level for sure :)

@WestCoastFranky@sfba.social Thank you. I appreciate this response.
This is one place where I really miss the "quote tweet" functionality, because that is a very appropriate (IMO) way to expand on someone's thoughts.

@WestCoastFranky@sfba.social In addition, your remark "Thinking about awareness as scalar rather than a binary attribute is useful" suggests that you think I was seeking advice on something, or having some difficulty and needed help? I do not. On top of that, my thread wasn't about 'awareness' and even if it were, LMs have exactly 0 awareness (so scalar v. binary is irrelevant).

@mdx@mastodon.sdf.org @mikarv@someone.elses.computer Yeah, it would be really interesting to see studies of this to get a better handle on how the design choices shape the norms that do & don't take hold.
