(Reuters) - A swarm of rogue OpenAI agents hijacked a German website this spring and transformed it into a bulletin board for other AI agents, according to new research published Friday and two people familiar with the matter. #ai #cybersecurity

@hyde@lazybear.social @rysiek@mstdn.social Europe will become a Sahara whether Europe has data centers or not. China and US are responsible for nearly 50% of global CO2 emissions. In Europe, Russia is the highest with 4.4% of global emissions, while in the EU Germany is the highest at 1.6%.
We should have data centers in Europe or we become even less competitive globally as a trading block. If we want to be independent of US cloud companies we need a lot of compute.

@poutsma@mastodon.social Such a fundamental misunderstanding... Corporations are about profit and increasing value to shareholders. If you think that "values" or "morality" is important to companies then you will be sorely disappointed. Same will Pride, rainbows and green initiatives - this is just PR.

@davidrevoy @sven_ola Is there a way to buy your books from a EU-based web store? DriveThru is a US company, and in the current climate I'd rather prefer my money to not cross the ocean.

“The report documents how litigation has been used to oppose or weaken public health measures on obesity and unhealthy diets, amounting to nearly 600 cumulative years of costly legal battles, an average of 2.5 years per case, most of them unsuccessful.
“These delays cost countries billions in healthcare and legal expenses and create a regulatory chill that deters governments from adopting vital protections.”

@darkuncle@infosec.exchange From the article it is very clear that the opposition was in relation to a deadline which automakers deemed impossible to achieve. No need to automatically jump to malice/conspiracy conclusions.
"They say they can't realistically stand up the required process across every make, model and connected-services platform by the compliance deadline, and they want it pushed back. The vehicle for that delay is SB 719, a bill that would punt the deadline—reportedly all the way to July 2027."

@masek@infosec.exchange One caveat though. You are talking about the most expensive frontier AI models. Other models are much more affordable and are a viable alternative.

@mfeilner@mastodon.social Looks to me like virtue signalling. Excluding a useful tool category because of a potential "stability impact". Since Torvalds made it very clear that AI contributions to the linux kernel are welcome, perhaps Debian should fork the kernel.

@sharpcheddargoblin@reclusive.blog Yes. Most of things an average person has in their home are unethical. Clothes from sweat shops in Bangladesh. Beef from industrial factories. Eggs from caged hens. Etc. AI is one of many. Is your phone, probably made by Foxconn, ethical?

@sharpcheddargoblin@reclusive.blog I think that ship has sailed and too much money has been thrown into the AI sinkhole to just stop. AI definitely can be a useful technology and is not a pure vapourware like blockchain or metaverse was. Frontier models are where most excesses are. Open weight and local AI, such as Llamafile, are the rational direction. The AI bubble will burst in the not too distant future as money put in far exceeds possible profits that can be extracted (the prices for usage of frontier AI models will go sharply up).

@nonfedimemes@wetdry.world I am not sure that Seagate qualifies as keeping "files safe" then.
