I have showered, gotten dressed, and gotten coffee and breakfast, all before 7 AM!
Please clap.
Today was a nice reminder that when you are on a mobility device (in my case the knee scooter) people are generally really nice about getting out of your way and holding doors for you. It also serves as a conversation starter as people tell you about their experiences in a boot. I'm OK with that!
Fuck it, I'm going out for tacos.
Currently swearing to the high heavens that I will never take simply getting out of bed in the middle of the night and walking to the restroom for granted ever again. (I will totally take it for granted again.)
Big day out! Not only did I shower and shave, my sister and I went out for lunch, then wandered downtown Grayslake before getting some beers.
And now I’m going to collapse in bed with all the Ibuprofen.
Noted elsewhere: I was on crutches after ankle surgery 30 years ago, so I thought they would be easier this time around. I failed to take into account the fact that I was 30 years younger then too 🙂
My life right now. At least technology has improved on the old trash-bag-duct-taped-shut shower protection.
I've locked in the itinerary for this year's summer road trip. I decided to skip the boring drive between Chicago and the Rocky Mountains, so from July 1 through August 2 I'll be driving a big loop starting and ending in Portland, Oregon. I'll be working remotely 2 days/week, so it all works out.
The Verge gets it.
In light of the recent fucking horrible news, some good places to send donations:
Trans Continental Pipeline: tcpipeline.org
Transgender Law Center: transgenderlawcenter.org
Both are 501(c)3 nonprofits, which means many employers will match donations to them.
RE: @WeirdWriter@caneandable.social
This is beautiful, and it made me cry. I can think of no higher compliment.
I had a hell of a realization about what my life might look like when my sister has to leave next week. She has her own life! It's not fair to expect her to stay forever. I've made some good adjustments so far, but thinking about things like making dinner, doing the dishes, driving to the store...huh. I have options, to be sure. Grocery delivery, drive-through restaurants (and pharmacies), maid service if needed...
I need to sit down and make some lists.
Colace is truly a gift from the gods.
Sleeping with this big clunky boot on my foot is sucking pretty badly, to the point I needed a pain pill at 4 AM. I'm going to try (with my doc's blessing) sleeping without it tonight and see how that goes. Today's excitement includes a shower (yay!) and maybe even leaving the house? We shall see.
Life on (awkwardly-adapting-to) crutches: Using the restroom, brushing your teeth, and getting your meds in order takes 30 minutes, and you're exhausted afterward.
OJST with some great reminders on how to behave around service dogs. They aren't pets, so don't treat them like pets! https://www.ohjoysextoy.com/please-dont-pet-quil-and-ink/

@DuskDargent@meow.social I'm gonna buckle down and watch it eventually. I started to read the book a while back, but I was turned off by the hate-fucking and took a pass. (I'm told it gets much better after that.)
I swear - judging by the M/M genre, there are actually no straight hockey players at all - every single one of them is queer in some way.
@jordan@sometimes.social I'm glad I took advantage of the 60°F temps a few days ago to wash my car, because I was feeling the same way.
Of course I'm driving up to Minneapolis this weekend. Goddammit.
