Perhaps it’s a funny way to perceive things, but I do see life as a big movie that I get to participate in. Am I the main character? Generally, no, but I see the movie from my perspective, so functionally, yes

Fascinating: i cant remember what it was like to feel the worst physicial pain in my life, not because i dont remember the event, but because my brain has completely scrubbed the experience itself from memory

Replying to

@AmyZenunim it's not shit advice. if you've never drawn in your life, you need to learn to control your instrument (pencil, pen) before you can even effectively trace or copy or whatever to start learning the target style. I can't speak for your personal example, but with drawing it is so. It's like when you need to learn what variables and loops are to understand algorithmic thinking and then programming. It's not gatekeeping. The commenter is not telling OP to start taking some 3 year life drawing course. you need some vocabulary to attempt to speak, to borrow another analogy.

Replying to

@AmyZenunim what you're recalling is unsolicited criticism, and I'm sorry you had to deal with it. I agree that there are a lot of haughty assholes that will go "GRRR!! you're learning WRONG!" completely unprompted and I stand against that kind of behaviour. The above is advice, requested. OP doesn't have to take it. If they feel like jumping into explicitly "how to draw manga", they could. They wouldn't be much worse off, those kinds of books do teach you a tiny bit of fundamentals (like contructing with basic shapes). What the commenter is suggesting is theoretically optimal, but not necessary. Fact is, everyone learns differently, and you have to find the method that works for you. And so you cast a net for advice, like here

@AmyZenunim where in the comment is the person denigrating OP's muse? How can you know that drawing your first decently straight line, your first ovaline circle is thankless and boring?
