For all of you #Taiwanese here in #Taiwan. Let's piss off the PRC more and move from Chinese standard time to Japanese standard time.

"You try and take my owner's sausages and I'll hang you from the hooks"

The photo was taken in the East Market in #Tainan, #Taiwan. The stall owner had left their stall for a few minutes and the dog was left on guard. Note: he was actually quite friendly and on a leash.

@LoneLocust@mastodon.social There are beans sold in Taiwan, but if they are the right ones for you I don't know. Carrefour does have cans of refried beans I believe. Ground beef is available but in limited quantities compared to ground pork. Don't know what spices you need but some may be missing and you would have to substitute. Taco wrappers are small.

@ike@pkm.social Nielson is a well know for its reporting of TV viewers of TV shows of many types. In the past year they changed the method used for calculating the number of views. The results changed significantly. Where the past rating wrong or are the new ratings wrong? Finally I agree that the percentages show are probably reasonable to compare the different sites, but to say that X percentage of people in Seattle have Y as a site they logged into and used during the "last" 30 days is just not supported without additional information.

@LoneLocust@mastodon.social That does make things much much better. So all you will need is the international license. Used to be done by AAA, don't know who does it now.

@transicorn@mastodon.social I don't know anything of your background except that you have lived in Seattle for many years and were homeless for 6. For the latter I sincerely sympathize. I spent some time during college working with homeless and disadvantaged children in Seattle. But I have some insight on how the world views the US. I am a 4th generation Seattleite. My ancestors arrived in Seattle about 150 years ago. I spent the first 40 years of my life living in Seattle and the last 40 years living in Taiwan and for the past almost 15 years I have spent 4 to 5 months a year in Japan and France. While in France I also spend time in Italy, Holland, and the UK. I know a lot of what they think about their own situation as well as what they think about the US. Most Europeans know more about the US and how it works than Americans know about the EU and how it works. But I admit that when I say that I am originally from Seattle, in many cases I have to say it is about 300 kilometers south of Vancouver B.C.

@beer@universeodon.com If you want a classic steakhouse. Go to El Gaucho. It's like going to a 50's San Francisco steak house. Or it used to be, living in Taiwan makes going there very difficult.

@transicorn@mastodon.social Don't knock the Welsh. How many Americans can pronounce Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch or even know that it is a village in Wales or that a lot of Pennsylvania was settled by welsh coal miners or that Mt. Snowdon is the highest mountain in England and Wales. For knowledge of the world out side of their own country, the citizens of the US are among the worst.

I should add canned Chilli Con Carne is non-existant in Taiwan from what I can tell.

@ike@pkm.social but if every person that visited Facebook visited it 10 times in that 30 day period, than it was only 7.2 percent of the population. And then if you log in first thing in the morning and logout when you go to bed at night, that is 1 person. But if you log in and log off several times a day that is several people. Of course this is all predicated on my assumptions on what facebook means by a visit. I don't know what a visit means and the picture doesn't say what a visit means. Basically the graph is useless by itself.

@bikejourno In the crowded situation that you are talking about I have generally solved by simply getting in the front of the line for the next train so that I will have a seat. Have had to do that several times riding the JR in Japan and a few times on the MRT in Taipei as well as a couple of times on the Airport express. Never seemed to be a big thing for me to get upset about.

@thechrisdantes Don't disagree. However there is a problem with parking lots that I have encountered in Taipei. There are some lots that restrict access when the lot is full based upon counting in's and out's. So you drive up and the lot let's you in because their count says there are 2 spaces left. You enter the lot and find that the 2 spaces are marked for vehicles used by the handicapped. It is illegal to park in them but you are now paying for the parking when you can't park but have to wait until someone leaves. and then you pass the same problem on to the car coming in.

@bikejourno@ciclista.social It's not that they have zero luggage, they have checked their bags at the MRT station so that they wouldn't have to shlep them to the check-in counters in the airport. If they use an app on their phone to check-in they can go straight to immigration when they arrive at the airport. My daughter did this last week when she flew back to Seattle. You have to check with you airline to see if they support the baggage checking in Taipei. Also you have to check your baggage before 8PM (at least with EVA, others could be earlier or later).

@transicorn@mastodon.social it's also cultural. Here in #Taiwan, many people were masks whenever they leave their home. Others carry masks with them to put on when they are clinics, and hospitals. Many places that serve food or in other ways deal with many customers (e.g. bank tellers) require those employees to where masks. Workers and/or customers aren't complaining.

My daughter and wife's Taiwan passports have their American names as AKAs and my son's passport only has his Taiwanese name. There doesn't seem to be and real ridged rules.

@LoneLocust@mastodon.social I'm in France 3 to 4 months a year. There are traffic circles everywhere, some as small as a 2 meter circle to go around. In Seattle where I grew up and my daughter lives they have traffic circles mostly in the residential area that are somewhere between 10 and 15 feet in diameter. Also a few large normal sized ones. My experience seems to be that in the US nobody really know traffic circle etiquette. I am hoping that over time there will be more traffic circles in the US and people will learn how to use them correctly. They do same time and money.

@randombullet Mr. Wu, one thing is completely wrong with your statement. The Republic of China was formed at the beginning of 1912. Communism first appeared with the overthrow of the Russian Tzars in 1917. The Communist party of China didn't form until 1921. THEY separated from the ROC. The ROC did not separate from them.

@Cass_m@socialbc.ca Depends on where your gates are. Looks like you would clear customs in Hawai'i and land at a domestic gate in Seattle. If it's the North or South sattelites you need to ride the underground shuttle to get to the main airport. More interesting things are there. The satellites don't have much except for seats for waiting for your next flight. If clear customs in Seattle you will be in the main area of the airport but you may need to go through a security check to get to your gate.
