Immersing myself in the vibe out at my favorite accessible riverside hang before I head over to chorus practice. The weather has gotten a good bit more typically Pacific Northwest autumnal this week, and I for one am glad.

Earlier today, Mr Swayze was scoping the neighbors once again, ears at full alert for any important developments.

Mr Swayze loves his window on his domain - so many humans, dogs, and cats to be observed, supervised, and judged. 😹

Mr Swayze is apparently in need of a nap after a morning spent keeping an eye on that one difficult neighbor as he engaged in some of his usual antics.

Mr Swayze seems to be paying the local fireworks sound effects little attention. Fortunately, even though unbeknownst to me there was a fireworks show barely a mile away from my home, the sounds have been fairly muffled so far, for which I am relieved.

On the home front: The word "dysregulated" is becoming so useful to me. It neatly describes my reaction to such activities as filling out BIG SCARY OFFICIAL FORMS on the internet - I'm all like why are my hands suddenly shaking so much that I can barely keep the cursor still enough to click the buttons and all, and I've spent literally years filling out forms for my former career? To a certain extent this was always going on for me under the mask I'd unknowingly built over my personal mix of neurospicy/childhood PTSD baggage, but ever since retirement allowed me to pry off that mask, the hand-shakes, anxiety, avoidance behaviors, and all sorts of other dysregulation crap has been FIERCE. But I've finally tackled all the SCARY FORMS that had deadlines RIGHT NAO ... I still have something I need to look up to relieve some lingering anxiety but at least I can settle back into my favorite avoidance behaviors with a relatively clear conscience. (Fave avoidance behaviors do include getting lost in Tamriel via Elder Scrolls Online, so really only harmful to my posture and my pew pew pew hand. 😅)

Mr Swayze's cute pose tonight shows off his rear toe-beans to charming effect.
#CatsOfMastodon #SeniorCat #ShelterCat #SiameseCat #MrCatrickSwayze
Mr Swayze's latest cute sleeping pose. He tends to start his naps lying neatly within this bed's perimeter, and gradually unfurls his limbs into a more casual sprawl as he completely relaxes.
As a budget thing, I've taken to buying family packs of chicken leg quarters, breaking them down into drumsticks and thighs, removing the skin, and then packaging everything up in individual servings for the freezer (and freezing the chicken skin too for rendering when I have enough to make it worthwhile). I was in the midst of doing all this at my kitchen table when suddenly I realized I had an audience - my cat. I've done this prep routine any number of times without Mr Swayze showing any interest, but there he was tonight, pacing about my little kitchen around and behind me, definitely fascinated by all this raw carnivore-food aroma his human was releasing. It wasn't his full-on begging mode as he didn't vocalize (oh he's got a whole vocabulary of mrrts and meows, believe me!) but his level of interest was definitely clear. Fortunately the old gent is a little too arthritic to go table-diving, but I did hasten to get everything sealed up and stowed away safely before things got out of hand. 😹

So I've managed to get myself addicted to YouTube music reaction videos - but I'm at the point of un-addicting myself due to a surfeit of ignorant music reactors. A lot of them believe it's best to go into a song with zero knowledge, so that their reactions are fresh and unbiased or something. But then they make painfully wrong-headed speculations about the song or its artists, and then harp on those wrong ideas as if they're right, making the resulting video unwatchably irritating. I saw one reactor decide Jim Morrison was British, so LA Woman was from the point of view of someone not familiar with LA 🤣 Another went all in on Blue Oyster Cult being a 1960s "hippie" band so that's why Don't Fear The Reaper sounds so laid-back and mellow 🤣 And innumerable other travesties of that sort.
If by any chance you know of any music reactors who actually spend time educating themselves about the songs they're reacting to, please let me know about them! I genuinely want to groove with people who appreciate the same types of music I like and will introduce me to new music I might like - but these people who pride themselves on their ignorance is Not That.
Spring has majorly sprung since my last visit to my favorite accessible riverside hang.

Meanwhile on the home front: Mr Swayze appears to be completely recovered from last week's dental work. I am relieved - and also glad I no longer have to dose him with that liquid painkiller they prescribed for him. I was incapable of getting the syringe aimed into his cheek pouch as instructed, so the bitter taste of it hit his tongue, causing him to hate it even more. It's a tribute to how much he's bonded to me that he even put up with it the full week, and getting a Churu snack immediately afterward helped a bit, but he was reaching the limit of his patience with it by the end.
Aaaaaand also the damn smoke detector malfunctioned noisily again the other day, even with freshly bought batteries in it. So now it's back off the wall and disemboweled of batteries again, and I have a message in to the property manager that the whole detector is probably gone bad prematurely and needs to be replaced.
(Edited to fix typos)
Once Spring gets going in earnest around here, the river will be hidden by lots of lush foliage, but for now it's visible in all its beauty.

The atmospheric river currently soggifying the US west coast is a good 100 miles north of me, but the big (terrestrial) rivers through and around town do have a lot of their sources up in the section of the Cascades in that rainfall's path, so we're seeing some impacts down here at my favorite accessible riverside hang too.

Meanwhile on the home front: one of my apartment's smoke detectors went off for no reason this afternoon - one of its malfunction signals I'm pretty sure, three quick beeps then a whole 60 seconds or more then repeat - and I once again ran into the reality that I as a disabled person who is not safe on ladders have no way of reaching the damn things. I was able to summon a gracious and helpful neighbor to come disconnect the thing till I can get to the store tomorrow for replacement batteries, my tentative diagnosis. But I was painfully reminded of last summer when all three detectors went full false alarm at 7am - I felt so badly over dragging Helpful Neighbor out of bed at that hour. Figuring there has got to be a better way, I went net-diving and discovered that yes, there are smoke detectors with various remote control options. The question now becomes seeing if the housing co-op management is cool with me getting a different detector from the model they have throughout the co-op. Since I'm in one of the ADA units, I think it would be an easy yes, but who knows if there's some technical thing I don't know about. We'll see.

@vlrny@disabled.social I an currently getting some support, including managing to get an ADA apartment in a lower-income housing co-op ... but I still see supposed allies whining about mask requirements even at progressive-oriented events, plus threats to the funding that made my housing situation possible, so hell yeah I still could use some more public/ally tangible demonstration of support for their disabled comrades.

@Starry1086@wandering.shop That particular cat, and a few others, are still wandering but in various stages of semi-adopted by community members - they're still outdoors but being fed and housing being sought.

@DriftlessRoots@toot.community Yeah, if someone were testing some software on my content without getting my prior informed consent, I confess that would piss me off enough to block and report them. Regardless of how innocuous they may think their access is, this would send me right through the roof. Unauthorized use of someone's IP is evil, full stop.

@dreadfulsanity@mstdn.games Now this song takes me back. I was a big Bowie fan from my teens in the 70s, and I recall hearing Schilling's song and thinking "great synthpop, wonder what Bowie thinks of it? (An admittedly brief googling is telling me Bowie did like it.) Thanks for the musical memories!
Mr Swayze was sleepy enough that I was able to get a few shots of this, his latest cute pose, before he sensed the camera and twitched. 😹

Meanwhile on the home front: Am I the only Mastadonian who skeeves out a bit when someone I've never before interacted with on Mastodon suddenly sends a friend request out of the blue, and simultaneously starts favoriting bunches of my posts including ones a year old? It's not like there was anything weird on their profile - but my spider-sense started tingling anyway so I blocked them.
I guess word to the wise, I've had a couple too many people in my life who have started out being suddenly/overly/obsessively friendly before devolving to intrusively/pushily friendly plus other toxic behaviors, so I've got some post-traumatic wariness about that.
