I have a 10 years old Northface rain jacket, it still looks nice, but feels a tighter than 10 years ago (the kilos have added, didn't help either that I bought it right after losing weight from being ill).
Plus, I learned that jackets lose their effectiveness against rain and cold after years of use.
Hence, now I need to buy a new one, but don't really want too cause this one is a nice color they don't sell anymore and it looks nice on me.
I really be on both extremes when spending money; will buy expensive perfume, but also, will drag my feet buying a new good rain jacket even when it's needed.
Have been back from home (Aruba) two days now and work starts next Monday.
Not looking forward to leaving home early and train drama.
The only downside of Aruba is that I don't drive anymore and am totally dependent on people whereas in NL I can be totally independent thanks to public transportation and everything in walking distance.
I have been using Proton sheets for two months now and it has so many tiny bugs. Every time I use it I need to correct fields that lost the set color, fonts default back to Arial. Tabs won't stay in order.
But it's the closest alternative to Google sheets.
While I really want to move from big tech and data hogging services, 5 euro a month for something that is basically a beta app is no fun.
Somewhere along the way I lost the passion for coding, especially back-end coding. I will do HTML and CSS for work and the occasional WordPress related PHP. But once I clock out of work I don't touch code except to maintain my website.
There are days I wish I had a cool project idea to focus on and keep learning but I come up empty.
Stupid question maybe, but why aren't data centers using solar power?
Netherlands electric grid is overloaded, meanwhile one of Microsoft data centers here is using 2% of all electricity. Meta and Google refuse to share how much theirs uses.
And we aren't even mentioning water shortage and having to shower 5 minutes only.
It's that I don't have space for large Lego pieces and it's that I was never into The X-Files (I know, right?!). Otherwise I would totally get this.

Die Albert Heijn steekproeven zijn de meest irriterende bullshit.
Ik gebruik al meer dan 10 jaar hetzelfde gepersonaliseerde bonuskaart. Ze weten precies op de centen hoeveel geld ik uitgeef aan boodschappen, te veel voor 1 persoon. Zij zijn mij aan het bestelen en niet andersom.
Krijg je twee dagen achter elkaar een steekproef.
En ik heb geen keuze van supers want centrum Den Haag is een monopolie van AH.
The thing I like about code, in this case CSS, is that I will be fighting to fix something. Come back the next day, retry some things even tho they didn't work the day before and it's suddenly fixed and I'm like huh? What did I do that it's working?!

I have been living in the Netherlands for 25 years. I was born and raised in Aruba where our native language is Papiamento. Being part of the Dutch Kingdom means we had to learn Dutch early on (6 years old) and our education system is/was fully in Dutch. My end exams in high-school were the same Dutch kids in the Netherlands made.
Also, not only do I speak/read Papiamento and Dutch. Also, Spanish and English.
So, yes. I speak with a heavy accent (I have been told) becoming deaf later in life also made my accent heavier because I can't hear myself.
I have been told a couple of times my Dutch isn't good, they don't understand what I'm saying and once in a while corrected during conversations.
But, it's only recently I learned that it is not that I don't speak Dutch well (I do), people take offense on my accent. They mean: You don't speak Dutch like I do.
This article brought this up again in my mind.
Heb net de KPN Teletolk optie van NS gebruikt om met klantenservice in contact te komen.
De tolk vroeg als ik zelf wil luisteren (of zo iets) met de medewerker van NS. Ik van huh nee, ik ben doof. Ik praat zelf maar ik moet lezen wat de NS zegt.
En de tolk: oh haha, we checken want mensen die niet doof zijn bellen soms via de KPN Teletolk.
Wat in de absolute fuck? Geen schaamte. Also, bellen via de KPN Teletolk is geen magisch manier om sneller aan de beurt te komen, je staat gewoon in de wachtrij met iedereen.
Shit, echt. Zulke dingen maken me wel echt boos. Er is al een tolken tekort en nu gaan aso horende mensen bellen via de KPN Teletolk omdat ze denken dat dat sneller is dan gewoon bellen. Want why else ga je ermee bellen als je niet doof bent?

As a late deaf person I like the IMAX sound experience because I can feel the bass. But visually it is taxing. I need to sit at least half way back.

@iko@mastodon.design I suspect that when the press agency emails articles, the journalists copy it directly from the email in Outlook instead of the Words doc. When putting links in outlook email I suspect Microsoft converts them to safelinks, which redirects the links through their system. This way Microsoft can track the link activity.
Jetlag musings: I have been away for two weeks visiting my mom and family on Aruba.
I have been living in the Netherlands for 26 years now and it gets harder every time to say goodbye. People get older and frailer, you know, life.
Aunts were staying at a hotel, got to enjoy home cooked meals and beach/pool day for one whole week. Haven't done that since I moved here.
Finally visited the Donkey Sanctuary and petted donkeys. Brought some carrots for them but there were too many donkeys.
We found out my moms old Rav4 with no 4x4 can go off roading albeit at like 5km an hour and with a flat tire afterwards. At least we got out of the rough area back to civilization.
I absolutely did not miss the smell of cigarettes. Boy oh, I have been back less than 15 hours, the moment I stepped outside it was smokers everywhere. The Netherlands is the only place I lived or have been too that has smokers every ten steps.
Even now, 2:30am neighbor is smoking, I can smell it through the window ventilation roster.
Will have to change Mastodon instance. tech.lgbt has become very buggy.

Op 15 juni toen ie in de koop ging heb ik de NS Dal Vrij kaart voor 49,- gekocht. Ik kreeg sindsdien geen email van de NS dat het ging hernieuwen voor 15 juli en nog steeds staat NS Dal Vrij niet als een reisproduct op mijn kaart als ik op mijn online NS account check.
Ik reis wel voor 0 euro. Heeft veel gescheeld afgelopen maand.
Heb nu een aantal reminders in mijn agenda gezet om uit te zoeken hoe ik het stop zet voor 15 augustus anders heb ik zo een rekening van 128 euro.
NS beloofde dat iedereen een herinnering mail zou krijgen over het overgang van 49 euro naar 127 euro.
Wedden dat dat niet gaat gebeuren en een boel mensen opgescheept zullen zitten met een abonnement van 127 euro en het zal ook moeilijk zijn om het stop te zetten als je hem niet ziet in je account.

Today my manager was telling us thet for an open poisition we have, two of the best sollicitants turned out to be fake. These people don't exist. They sent a cv and cover letter but when fact checking with previous employers and such, these person don't exist.
We are stumped as to who and or why would sent fake application for a junior social media editor opening.
You know how recipes blog give you a whole story having nothing to do with the food before giving you the recipe?
