Favourite tiny (1 mm) find on a decomposing log: Blue-stain Fungus aka Green Elfcup or Turquoise Wood Cup or... (Chlorociboria) - this beautiful fungus has changed names too often to keep track. #macro #fungi #nature

The Loon I came close to today while kayaking may have been this year's young one. Loons are molting right now, and this one left me with a feather floating to the kayak. One more for my collection of Loon feathers 😊. #birds #feather #BWphotography

Our garden Chicory is still flowering, and this Yellow-legged Flower Fly (Syrphus rectus) took full advantage of it. (Learning how to use the flash with the Fuji 😊.) #flies #insects #wildflowers #macro

Our resident Chipmunk seems to be well prepared for the coming long winter. Never seen him this chunky. Stuffing what I had just dropped on the compost pile into his cheek pouches.
I wonder how many peanuts he has stored in his underground burrow. He knows how to ask for them 😊.

Getting dark, I had just taken the hummingbird feeder into the house, was closing the curtains, and noticed the "heavy wind" in the plum tree. Right! 🙄 Will have to pick all the remaining unripe plums tomorrow. (Photo taken with 12800 ISO, through window, wrong lens,...) #bear #wildlife #gardening

I almost stepped on this "twig" in the garden. And then I thought: it's a worm aka Regenwurm. And then I realized: it's a young Northern Redbelly Snake 😍. She does have a red belly. #snake #garden #wildlife

I thought I took a photo of one Northern Watersnake. On the computer I discovered two more, and even more of them were coiled up a few steps down the trail. #snakes #wildlife #nature

The Milkweed flowers lining a logging road are covered with pollinators: Great Spangled Fritillaries on top, and looking closely two little brown Skipper butterflies and two bees burrowed deep into the flowers, and on the leaf two more tiny insects. #insects #butterflies #flowers

It's Ontario Peach Time 🍑 😋.
The only problem is that all the peaches in the basket are at their best on the same day so I have to eat them all at once.
It's tough but I can live with that 😊.

This is a summer where the windows have to stay closed overnight because of the bad air quality from smoke, causing allergy aggravation.
So it also can't cool down in the house overnight.
So I can't hear the birds sing in the morning (do they even sing?).

And yes, I know it could be worse ...

Turned around in the garden to see a Black Bear inspecting flower boxes. I would have thought they were all out in the bush picking blueberries. He was in no hurry upon being discovered. Now I know who flattened some of my flowers last night.

These cute little flowers carpet the woody edges and shady rocks: Twinflowers (Linnaea borealis), actually mini Honeysuckles. They are about 5 cm high, their leaves are flat on the ground. Some of the early food sources for pollinators. #bloomscrolling #wildflowers #macro

Last evening I saw this bold little Bluebird leaning far out of the box, so they were ready. Must be getting crowded in there. This morning I woke up from the low sweet voice of the father. He had coaxed them out before I could watch. So far, so good, despite the earlier drama 😊 #birds

Midland Painted Turtles on the road today: a large one, probably off to dig a nest, and a tiny one that probably overwintered and hatched now (Painted Turtles hatch either in the fall or in the following spring). Anyway, both were helped off the road. #turtles #wildlife

This tiny plant is called Blue-eyed Grass (Sisyrinchium montanum), a native wildflower. Despite the name, it is not a grass but an Iris. The flowers are about 5mm across. #gardening #wildflowers #macro

We have a pair of Mourning Doves in the garden. One of them seems to be an old acquaintance, quite approachable, looking into the window when they feel a snack would be in order. Some birds are quite successful at training me 😊. #birds #garden #nature

Walking around the beaver pond yesterday. There were a few fresh turtle nests, protected from predators with wire cages placed by volunteers. This River Otter caught a substantial lunch, a Catfish. #Wildlife #nature #otter

Feeding the Hummingbirds has to stop now 😢. DH took this photo last month after he noticed it got so dark all of a sudden in the living room 😬. Yesterday a bear came back for the hummingbird feeder. There are enough flowers now. That will have to suffice. #bear #wildlife
