it's as shrimple as that.
as a (former) discord user myself, bare minimum requirements are:
- a decent chatroom experience, incl. media and custom emojis.
- good quality moderation tools (incl. being able to see as roles - this is really good for testing stuff.)
- a top notch audio/video experience - (discord uses opus iirc, so should be theoretically possible to implement, could probably copy some stuff from OBS for the AV stuff)
since messages are organized by discord server group, federation SHOULD be fairly lightweight and doable for users (just need username and list of servers/friends for migrating).
(if we're hauling entire discord servers between instances, take it up with @jonny@neuromatch.social )
but e2ee feels unnecessary for this use case and an entirely new operating system kernel sounds like there's a story and a half behind it.
the article itself (from what looks like the television equivalent of a local newspaper) mentions the gunman had a care-clearance for cptsd and schizophrenia, and hadn't been on his meds for 6 months, so that would certainly work as a mitigating circumstance in court.
the thing is, if we take a step back, the number of people specifically with care clearances for cptsd and schizophrenia in amsterdam is most certainly going to be greater than one.
so assuming the above axiom is correct, what's boggling me is why would a random livestream viewer possess the phone number of:
- this specific person in amsterdam,
- with known complex mental health issues,
- who just so happens to also have an illegal firearm,
and hand that specific number to a prank streamer, with a donation, with the express intent of distressing this specific person with mental health issues?
