Harry Everett Smith (May 29, 1923 – November 27, 1991) was an American polymath, who was credited variously as an artist, experimental filmmaker, bohemian, mystic, record collector, hoarder, student of anthropology and a Neo-Gnostic bishop.
Tree of Life in the Four Worlds
Harry Smith created this brilliant and unique interpretation of the Tree of Life in 1954 when he was employed at Inkweed Arts, a greeting card company owned by Lionel Ziprin. 500 copies were printed in the first edition. The Tree of Life was shown at the Whitney Museum exhibit “Beat Culture and the New America 1950-1965″. The 1997 edition is printed from the original collotype plates executed by Jordan Belson.
Harry Smith’s Tree of Life (1954) is a highly intricate, esoteric visual interpretation of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life. Created while he worked at a greeting card company, it is one of his most iconic surviving masterpieces, blending occult traditions with his obsession for complex, esoteric systems of knowledge.
Beasts Of Bourbon - Just Right
Being a young barfly and lounge lizard in the early 90s in Australia. Wearing Beatle boots, stovepipe trousers, a paisly shirt and suit jacket. Long hair and a love of substances. No boundaries and no laws...but a strong set of conventions and convictions.
This was the sound:

i. Prison of Images
This world is a prison of images.
What you love can set you free.
Or it can hold you for eternity.
Be careful what you adore.
It will make how you live.
The fermentation of ideas,
Grow them.
Watch each one mature into a fully flowered life.
The experience of space through the energy of thought,
Take out your beliefs and clean each one with questions.
The Shadow Folk and the Mirror People.
Two sides of the same false coin.
The body as the animated self has always been the gateway to the political.
Name, age and sex.
We classify ourselves every morning in the bathroom mirror.
The abstraction of the universe is the duty of all.
Become multiples.
Recognizing the veil of the body opens the prism of images.
Decolonize form and give back identity to its owner.
Nothing.
With favor quenched by fire.
The girl next to me standing rigid still in the evening crush.
Fists clenched white before each hip.
The fuel of life alive in her eyes but
The train has passed the final station.
It continues to the end without question.
No embarkations the entire length of the spine.
We take our bodies into the street.
Show them as reflections and packaged hopes.
They are nothing but the light reflected upon the mesh of our emotions.
Whisper your true name. Before you sleep.
ii) Inner River
Searching for the inner river
I reclined upon the earth and
found myself amongst
the dry dust and stones
but with my bones
I wove a new window
to an old kingdom
where time the filter
thru which we live is
banished by
the bodies in motion
the joining of grades
in the valley of velvet
and crowns flowered
in the eyes of every adept.
She flies through the night
and walks upon the stars
Her sky is the vault of my heaven
where deep in forest nocturne
we stack and adorn our bodies.
With blood and sap.
Advanced acres of flesh
prioritize the future
from eyeball
to grave with the grace
of ages wrapped in nothing
but memory and the light
that requires no source
our ambrosia is words
thrown out upon the
still waters of our minds.
Nothing ventured
nothing gained
is the game of breath
and of promises kept.
Keep listening to eternity.
It resonates everywhere
outside the symbolic
but within the diagrams
that dissect thinking;
A map of lines built upon
the sacred angles of love
the trampling of questions
the burning of return,
no one can deny you
this temple of emotion where
a heart lies at every center
for the challenge of seeing
has always been recognition.
Anything to stop a multicultural society being established in Sweden. The current government has cut immigration to almost net zero. It has deported thousands, some of them were born in Sweden. Now it wants to encourage baby farming.
"Sweden’s prime minister has promised to put IVF at the heart of his re-election campaign as he tries to win over female voters amid the country’s record low birthrate.
Ulf Kristersson’s government recently increased the number of state-funded IVF attempts granted to aspiring first-time parents from three to six.
Now he has said that if his party, the centre-right Moderates – whose minority-run coalition depends on the support of the far-right Sweden Democrats – hold on to power in September’s general election, they will also fund IVF for additional children.
It comes after official statistics showed this year that, despite often being cited as one of the best countries in the world to have children, Sweden’s fertility rate sank to 1.42 last year, the lowest since 1749 when records started."

Absolutely gutted to hear Phil Beckett from Propaganda and Information Network (P.A.I.N) has left for the big gig in the sky, a true road warrior with Radical Dance Faction and PAIN. Phil’s blend of punk and reggae was his signature sound, playing on sessions with UK Subs, The Astronauts and Splodge. Thoughts are with Sal, Paris, Ozzy and the family.

Singer-songwriter and artist Adam Green views the legendary polymath Harry Smith as an inspiration, frequently curating talks and screenings exploring Smith's surreal, alchemical approach to art and sound.
Green’s explorations into Smith's work encompass several specific angles and themes:
Alchemical Cinema & Occultism: Green’s lectures treat Harry Smith's landmark cut-out film Heaven & Earth Magic (1962) as an initiatory experience. He frequently discusses how Smith utilized Kabbalah, alchemy, and ritualistic imagery to transform human perception and bypass traditional narratives.
The Anthology as Magic: Green has explored Smith's highly influential Anthology of American Folk Music not just as a music collection, but as a "magical instrument." He argues that by curating and sequencing marginalized Americana, Smith intentionally altered American culture.
Connection to his Own Practice: Green credits Smith's span of interests—ranging from poetry to folk music and experimental cinema—as a massive influence on his own "world-making" and creative ventures.
In this short videäo from last week's retrospective on the life and work of Harry Smith, put on by the Harry Smith Archive in New York, Green is speaking about Anthology of American Folk Music (1952).
Anthology of American Folk Music is a three-volume compilation album released in August 1952 by Folkways Records. It was compiled by American polymath Harry Smith from his own collection of 78 rpm records. It consists of eighty-four recordings of American folk, blues and country music made and issued from 1926 to 1933 by a variety of performers, divided into three categories: "ballads", "social music", and "songs".
Between the two lakes lies Falbygden, a varied landscape with many moors and unique table mountains. Few landscapes are as strongly characterised by the past as Falbygden; among other ancient remains three quarters of all of Sweden’s passage tombs can be found here. In all, about 260 monuments have survived. This makes Falbygden home to one of the largest concentrations of megalithic tombs in northern Europe.

Biyarrung (Aboriginal name) was born, in about 1820, on the south side of the George's River and the Kurnell Peninsula, the former entering Botany Bay on its west side and the latter on its south side. She is said to have belonged to the Gweagal Clan of the Dharawal (Tharawal) Tribe, who seem to correspond with the "early ancestors of Illawarra's Wadi-Wadi people". What is certain is that she spoke the Tharawal language fluently.
Biyarrung Married early to an older Gweagal man, Cooman or 'King Kooma', Biddy left him to marry Paddy Burragalang (also known as Paddy Davis) moving from Botany to his country of Five Islands in the southern part of Dharawal country. Here she had two daughters, Rosie and Ellen, and lived for about 20 years.
About the time Paddy died around 1860, Biddy moved to the Georges River, with a new partner, an Englishman called Billy Giles. They lived on the western bank of Mill Creek, known to the Dharawal as Gurugurang, in a farmhouse built earlier by Dr Alexander Cuthill.
They had fruit trees, goats and abundant bush tucker from the river and its banks. During the 1860s, Biddy and Billy acted as guides for groups of travellers in shooting or fishing parties, sharing their knowledge of the river and its wildlife, telling stories and sharing skills. These trips ranged from Mill Creek east all the way to the ocean and south into Dharawal country as far as the Shoalhaven.
Some of these travellers wrote accounts of their trips with Biddy, marvelling at her unfailing ability to find fish, her control of her hunting dogs and the skill with which she could rustle up a delicious meal from local produce.
After Billy's death in the mid-1870s, Biddy moved along the river to live at Joseph Holt's property at Sylvania with her brother Joey. The work camps and oyster beds of the property provided a living to a number of Aboriginal people, both from the Georges River and elsewhere. Biddy also visited the Aboriginal camps at Kogarah Bay and Botany Bay at different times.
Biddy died at Sylvania in the 1890s. Her daughter Ellen, with her husband Hugh Anderson, later lived at Salt Pan Creek, downstream from her mother's house at Mill Creek.

Ernst Cassirer's last work, The Myth of the State (1946), was published posthumously; at one level it is an attempt to understand the intellectual origins of Nazi Germany. Cassirer sees Nazi Germany as a society in which the dangerous power of myth is not checked or subdued by superior forces. The book discusses the opposition of logos and mythos in Greek thought, Plato's Republic, the medieval theory of the state, Machiavelli, Thomas Carlyle's writings on hero worship, the racial theories of Arthur de Gobineau, and Hegel.
Cassirer claimed that in 20th-century politics there was a return, with the passive acquiescence of Martin Heidegger, to the irrationality of myth, and in particular to a belief that there is such a thing as destiny. Of this passive acquiescence, Cassirer says that in departing from Husserl's belief in an objective, logical basis for philosophy, Heidegger attenuated the ability of philosophy to oppose the resurgence of myth in German politics of the 1930s.
The Myth of the State discusses the surrender of rational logic to fascist mythology. Cassirer wrote that while fascist propaganda mythmaking flagrantly contradicted empirical reality, it provided a simple and direct answer to the anxieties of the secular present.

Anyone else remember Loompanics? It supplied myself and many friends with reading matter in the 1980s and 90s. All the way to country Queensland. I did have one consignment confiscated by customs. Jim Hogshire, "Opium for the Masses: Harvesting Nature's Best Pain Medication" (1994) was apparently a bridge too far for Australian law enforcement. It was destroyed as an "unlawful publication". It is now available on dozens of online services.

The Old Straight Track by Alfred Watkins
First published in 1925 The Old Straight Track has not been out of print since, it is one of the most important sources for the study of ancient tracks or leys that weave around Britain.
When out walking Alfred Watkins began to notice the connections between beacon hills mounds. earthworks. moats and old churches. te began researching and found that they were all built on pagan sites and seemed to fall in straight lines. His research helped him forge a theory that Britain was made of a interconnected network of ley lines.
The Chicken Tax is a 25% tariff on imports of light trucks (and originally also on potato starch, dextrin, and brandy) into the United States that has been in effect since 1964. It was imposed under President Lyndon B. Johnson in response to tariffs placed by France and West Germany on importation of U.S. chicken. The period from 1961 to 1964 of tensions and negotiations surrounding the issue was known as the "Chicken War", taking place at the height of Cold War politics.
Eventually, the tariffs on potato starch, dextrin, and brandy were lifted, but since 1964 this form of protectionism has remained in place to give US domestic automakers an advantage over imported competitors. Though concern remains about its repeal, a 2003 Cato Institute study called the tariff "a policy in search of a rationale."

The Magical Writings of Ithell Colquhoun
She was too surreal… even for the Surrealists. Ithell Colquhoun stepped into a movement built on dreams, rebellion, and the subconscious—and still managed to make them uncomfortable. While others flirted with mysticism, she went all in, studying the occult and refusing to separate her art from her inner life. That’s where the tension began. The Surrealists, led by André Breton, wanted control over the movement, and Colquhoun refused to choose between their rules and her beliefs. So they made the choice for her—and expelled her.
But she didn’t disappear. She kept creating, developing her own techniques, building a visual language that was entirely her own, and pushing deeper into the subconscious without permission or approval. For years, she was overlooked while others became icons. Now, her work feels more modern, more fearless, and more honest than ever—because she wasn’t trying to fit into a movement, she was building something beyond it. Some artists wait to be accepted. Others redefine what acceptance even means.
Ithell Colquhoun’s reputation as a provocative and accomplished visual artist and writer is becoming well established. However, less is known about her work as an occult and esoteric essayist, primarily because many of her essays were published in occult ephemera, and limited run local and specialist magazines. This illustrated talk will be an introduction to the wide range of topics that Colquhoun masterfully tackled, ranging from primers on the Kabbalah to Celtic spirituality, meditation, mysticism, and magical color theory.
