In my state in Brazil, they've reported a ludicrous increase in fines for people driving without a seatbelt. An AI-equipped camera can determine if a driver is wearing a seatbelt, using a smartphone, or having other illegal behavior from the top of a totem pole.

@rzeta0 there's a book called Daemon about a rich genius who dies _and then_ releases a daemon IA on the world to do his bidding. Fun stuff, weirdly prescient

@hanno (not a statistician) for large N (N > 30), you can approximate the Hamming weight as a normal distribution with mean = n/2 and stddev = sqrt(n)/2 (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binomial_distribution) From that, you can get the probability that the weight sits between 0.4n and 0.6n by calculating the integral between these two points (erf function). A good rule of thumb is knowing that there's a 68-95-99.7 probability that the actual value is 1-2-3 stddevs from the mean. I don't know what to do for small N.

@dabeaz now, a teacher is a more human, personalized version of a walkthrough. They know where all secrets are, they had their fun, but they aren't there to give the steps to succeed. They just need to unblock the player and make them have the most fun possible. I don't know where to go with this analogy, but: teachers and knowledge aren't going anywhere, though they won't be the easiest way to play the game anymore -- but they'll be the guide to the most fulfilling path.

@SusanPotter your optimism is touching, I'll try to nurture some myself. I have ups and downs while trying to build what is best for business and that people want, and lately I'm failing, so I'm in a down.
