"That time of year thou mayst in me behold When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang Upon those boughs which shake against the cold, Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang. In me thou see'st the twilight of such day As after sunset fadeth in the west, Which by and by black night doth take away, Death's second self, that seals up all in rest."

Opora was a minor Greek goddess of fruit, the harvest (especially the wine harvest), and the autumn season. Sirius (the dog star) fell in love with her, and his passion became so intense that it burned the Earth until Opora agreed to marry him. Sirius still glows every summer as a symbol of his love. #FolkloreThursday #Mythology #Folklore #Greece #Roman #Harvest #Autumn

"Travellers, now, within that valley,
Through the red-litten windows see
Vast forms, that move fantastically
To a discordant melody,
While, like a ghastly rapid river,
Through the pale door
A hideous throng rush out forever
And laugh — but smile no more."

In the Book of Genesis, the Stone of Jacob was a stone being used as a pillow by the Jewish patriarch Jacob when he had a vision of angels using a stairway to travel to Heaven. When he awoke, Jacob consecrated the stone to God. According to Scottish folklore, this stone became the Stone of Scone, which was used in the coronation of Scottish monarchs (and later English monarchs).

Dagon was the father of the gods in ancient Syria, as well as a god of fertility, prosperity, and kingship. Because his name sounds similar to the Hebrew word for "fish," Dagon is mistakenly called a sea god in medieval texts, and gets reinvented as a fish-like demon.

Seven-league boots are a common magical object in European folklore; they allow the wearer to travel seven leagues with each step. A league is roughly three miles, the distance the average man can walk in an hour. Thus, seven leagues would be a good day's walk. Such boots are often given to a hero to fulfill some great task.

Hey! Starting September 23, I'm teaching a weekly online class in writing comics and graphic novels through the Alexandra Writers' Centre! The class will focus on the writing aspect of comics rather than the drawing, analyzing various ways that a good script brings out the best in the art. We will discuss the elements of a graphic novel script, the different relationships that words and pictures have in a comic’s panels, how to effectively transition the story from panel to panel, and other techniques for producing a story that best fits the comics medium. Whether you want to create a humorous comic strip, an epic adventure, or a deeply personal memoir, this class will get you started. By the end, you'll have the tools to begin your own graphic novel. https://www.alexandrawriters.org/store/p1094/writing-for-comics-and-graphic-novels.html #Comics #GraphicNovel #CreativeWriting #WritingComics #Class #CreativeWritingClass #AlexandraWritersCentre

MONEY, n. A blessing that is of no advantage to us excepting when we part with it. An evidence of culture and a passport to polite society. Supportable property.
