@Lydie@tech.lgbt I've been using an i7 4790k, 32GB DDR3 and dual 5060 Ti's for local models, gemma4, qwen3.6 etc. not solar powered unfortunately

@beep@follow.ethanmarcotte.com @mwichary@mastodon.online @futurebird@sauropods.win @GeoffWozniak@masto.hackers.town https://lobste.rs/ & https://bubbles.town/ added to my feed reader has drastically improved my experience lately

@Lydie@tech.lgbt gemma4:12b is around 41t/s, qwen3.6:35b was 97t/s

@Lydie@tech.lgbt I suppose it is technically hydro-powered since I'm in Seattle, so some solace there 😅

@_the_cloud @theirongiant restarted the image without the compression and it's going fast now! 👍

@ali what's the "name cheap situation?" That's where mine are registered 😔

@thatKomputerKat@oldbytes.space @jonschwenn@hachyderm.io the full system prices are over-priced. They've been willing to come down when I've made offers in the past, but that's usually for an incomplete or non-working system. I've found good deals on components that would have cost much more trying to find online. My truenas system is cobbled together from REPC parts 😆

@jonschwenn@hachyderm.io I stopped by after #VCFPNW on Saturday and was *briefly* intrigued by this StarMax on the shelf. Picked up a $5 untested board I already have a CPU for instead 😬

@vga256 @ahihi my most resilient tower. Mine has a 600mHz G4 and Radeon 9200. Still comes in handy in a pinch.

@virtuous_sloth here we go

@davepeck@mastodon.davepeck.org I would have been so cooked as a kid if I grew up with access to a place like REPC, it's awesome as an adult, though 😆

@davepeck@mastodon.davepeck.org I took a different approach... $5 maybe it works? mobo at REPC I happened to have CPUs (LGA1366 🙃) for, put TrueNAS scale on it and have been setting up services from there ⚡⚡⚡

@davepeck@mastodon.davepeck.org looks like you're gonna have to eat your way out of there

@ali the one i've heard mentioned the most is porkbun and well… https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43358581 but non-US companies is probably a good place to start? https://disconnect.blog/getting-off-us-tech-a-guide/

@katianakamura thank you for your informative and thorough articles on Django! I found them extremely helpful and valuable when moving my site to the platform. Wishing you best luck in the future!

@darius @piccalilli I joined and added the Indiewebring to my personal site recently and taking a break to flip through a few random sites has been breathtakingly refreshing! https://xn--sr8hvo.ws/

@jonschwenn I often think about all the content that's silo'd in youtube video files… 😬

@Luke@typo.social KEXP over the air on a crisp summer day is the ideal calm tech
