New music from Dead Can Dance.

"‘Our Day Will Come’ is dedicated to the shared national aspirations of the Irish and Palestinian peoples. The song title is a direct reference and translation of the traditional Irish Republican slogan Tiocfaidh ár lá.  A slogan that embodies the aspirations of the Irish people in their shared vision of a united Ireland free from foreign colonial rule. In light of the appalling ongoing genocide in Palestine the solidarity between our two peoples has never been stronger."

@flkbmr @amadeus ...which would be well deserved (going outside) given the hours spent learning NixOS and building your system. Am I right? 😁 Jokes aside, happy NixOS user here too, with no will to hop distro!

@colly@mastodon.social's 2025 in music is a treat. Absolutely worth for both the music and the reviews.

@neauoire This resonates so much with the cover of the book I'm currently reading, /Les mains vides/ by Elio Possoz (and not just the cover, it's a great eutopia/climate fiction/solarpunk story) (See https://merveilles.town/@artsun/116159770453103340 :))

@neauoire@merveilles.town @rek@merveilles.town Haha this is so cool. Been loving their music since I was 12. I saw them in Paris a few years ago, it was peaceful and powerful at the same time. This track is something else though. New music from the band didn't move me like this for a while.

@neauoire@merveilles.town A Mistral stronger than expected unfurled the genoa this morning. It started flapping wildly in all directions, tore apart, and ripped off the radar and a spreader. On the phone, the marina had even told me that a shroud had snapped. I was kind of relieved to find out when I arrived that they had mistaken a shroud for the old lazy-jacks. Still, I lost a (worn) genoa, a (non-functional) radar and a spreader (the short one). This last thing is what concerns me more now cause the mast is bent the other way now.

Banging old Saul Williams music while doing chores this morning.
I've listened to this EP a lot back in the day, even did a remix of it (https://falai.se/en/echo/mashups/, at the bottom of the page). The message is unfortunately still pretty relevant.

@256k@merveilles.town Disclaimer: I'm a happy Emacs user myself (mostly for Org-roam these days). But this part, no no no: "What I can say with confidence is that Emacs is not for tourists. You cannot switch to it with the expectation that you will have a good time right away. No. That will not work. There simply is no shortcut to excellence." This sounds like plain gatekeeping to me, especially with that last sentence that sounds like a cheap slogan. And I strongly disagree with the stance, at least in the way he puts it. It's not because something is hard to do for a beginner that it's *excellence*. Those are two different things. Pure GNU elitism at work here. Edit: I find that this message kind of sounds harsh but was not meant to, thanks for sharing the link as it was an interesting read anyhow :)

@ccohanlon@merveilles.town @neauoire@merveilles.town Thank you. Yes, I did ease it a little bit yesterday but I'm afraid it wasn't enough. I'm considering going back today to ease it more and get a professional's opinion about the mast and the rig.

@yngmar@social.tchncs.de @neauoire@merveilles.town Yep,full inspection of the rig is going to be essential :/ The worst part is that ever since I weathered a storm in the harbor—and saw several torn genoa sails all around—I’ve always been very careful to make sure the genoa is properly furled, the sheets are secured to the cleats, and a line is tied around the genoa.... but on our second-to-last outing, we had a problem with the genoa, and it had remained imperfectly furled ever since (the furler was malfunctioning and we planned to repair it next weekend). Murphy's Law... I’ll go back tomorrow to reduce the tension in the opposite forestay. I did a little bit when I was there earlier today but wasn't sure if it was a good idea.

@yngmar@social.tchncs.de @neauoire@merveilles.town That's a great story in the end :) The night of the storm I was talking about a few posts before, I went out at night furling a genoa a few boats away. I was living aboard at this time and saw the sail just about to unfurl. Then - as I was already out - I went and checked other boats further away in the marina. I learned the day after that a lady of my neighbors, living aboard her trawler, mistook me for a thief and tried to get the number of the owner of the boat I climbed onto to warn him 😶

@neauoire@merveilles.town It's pretty zoomed in. The mast has two sets of spreaders, it's the very top that's under tension like this. Still, I hate seeing it like this. I couldn't fix it today but this can't wait too long...

@neauoire@merveilles.town Exactly what happened. The boat has been docked here for 10 days, it's a-- how do you say port à sec? It's even the-largest-in-Europe says the brochure, there are currently around a thousand boats. Astragale is a bit off to the side, in a corner where there isn't much people around. The dock workers did what they could when they noticed what was going on, they helped but they arrived once the damage had already been done :/
