@hacks4pancakes@infosec.exchange the relevant ACM conferences for me are actually all green, somewhat to my surprise. Not that I’m keen on flying into the US or at all, really.

I just realised I’ve mostly stopped learning programs. Since everything’s changing all the time, spending effort learning how to power use most programs is a waste of time.

Tyskland finansierar tydligen KDE, det uppenbara valet eftersom det är den tyskaste skrivbordsmiljön https://kde.org/announcements/sovereign-tech-fund-invests-kde/

Sovereign Tech Fund invests over €1 million in KDE software development

Sovereign Tech Fund invests over €1 million in KDE software development

Big Tech’s disregard for privacy laws and individuals’ personal data has become a matter of national security. As news of willful mismanagement fill the headlines on an almost daily basis, the world is beginning to turn away from expensive and insecure spyware-riddled software imposed by the likes of Microsoft, Google, Meta, Apple, et al.

#pixelgraphics people: I’m thinking of implementing a radar/scanner view of a todo list/calendar with tasks/events placed around me like aliens approaching in Aliens. Obviously the choice for this would be polar coordinates, with angle picked arbitrarily except avoiding overlap and distance picked by time to event/deadline. Now, how does one convert polar coordinates to Cartesian integer pixel coordinates? It seems unnecessarily complicated when computer graphics people online describe it.

In general I’m sad that dragging and dropping isn’t more useful on Linux. It’s a crapshoot if applications accept things dropped into them and most applications don’t have a representation for things to drag out of them. Normally I’d assume you could drag open documents, pages from a PDF, and so on.

Cancer mention (famous person)
I just heard Cory Doctorow mention that he has cancer (apparently it "seems treatable" so I'm not too worried for him) on the Dreaming against the machine podcast and think I experienced Time in a way I haven't since I was in my dad's workshop in my early 20s and realised one day he'll be dead and I won't know how to use the majority of the tools and machines in there.

Jag har migrerat @read till en statisk site på SourceHut pages eftersom det inte kostar mig något extra och write.as inte var så bra.

RSS-flödet fortsätter att fungera som vanligt och alla länkar ska fortfarande också göra det.

Uuuuuh I read some archived versions of Jeff Geerling’s old 2011 posts. Now, I generally think we should let things that old lie.

However; they were still published late 2025, with no revision, and they’re *very* out there. They’re not meaningfully ”personal opinions” either. These are clearly articulated political opinions. This is Daesh [Catholic], more or less.

The internet is slow again. It used to be fast when everything was on google and Facebook and extremely corporate but these days most things I use run on smaller boxes, worse connections and shoestring budgets.

How about this: the discursive field/consensus reality is the warp from warhammer 40k and we’re currently in the war in heaven era?

On the other hand Dolphin’s ability to add commands to run on selections coupled with the advanced file matching expression is a fantastic way to do what would have been brittle and annoying shell globbing or, worse, an hour of figuring out how to wire find to xargs without it choking the second one of your file names has a space. This is obviously how it should work: immediate visual feedback, text input used where it’s the most efficient (I.e. to specify a pattern).

@pulkomandy@mastodon.tetaneutral.net they start introducing complicated interpolation or nearest neighbour etc in the ”plus rounding” part. I was hoping to use integer tables of precomputed numbers or something, which should be possible. It felt very ”this must have a solution that doesn’t take the shortcut past floats”. My supervisor works on floating point number verification and I have a phobia of floats now.
