@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.net this is excellent. Thanks for the reminder that doing my 1% is enough. 🙌

@hilljam@mastodon.social @shannoncurtis@mastodon.social aww thanks, Jamie! Great to connect with you here. I appreciate your meme game of other spheres. But a Zuck-free community is long overdue in my life. 🫶

@internetarchive fascinating! Saving this for the reading list.

@PeterRobison@nashtodon.com Nice! I’ve been buying high res digital downloads from Qobuz and CDs when I come across the chance to pick up full albums I’ve been wanting. Idk what server I’ll use yet on the digital side (I just play them on my laptop right now), but similar to your Google Play example I’ve had music I really like leave a streaming platform and then there’s no way to listen anymore. All the more reason to buy it to have it forever.

@PeterRobison@nashtodon.com also, hell yeah Nashville public transit, walking, and biking! Shout out WeGo and Walk Bike Nashville. (side note: Walk Bike Nashville has a cool deal for cheap annual bus passes if you’re a member!)

@imanijoy@mastodon.social Bluesky starter packs were super helpful for me when I first joined Bluesky. Love seeing something similar roll out here since the fedi world is so sprawling. It can definitely be hard to know where to begin when new here (as I am).

@hilljam@mastodon.social that’s what’s up! 🫶

@PeterRobison@nashtodon.com Also I’ve released music myself in the past & I understand what goes into the creation of the art. There’s not any part of that process that I feel like I deserve to be able to access for free (or for fractions of pennies as the streaming platforms pay). I want to live in a world where artists can make a living, so buying it whenever I can (even if it’s only one album a month or something) just feels good. I’m not a purist. I still stream, but buying too feels right.

@PeterRobison@nashtodon.com Oh and speaking of consumer power - YES! Don’t get me started on the data mining done with everything we do online. Algorithms trying to hook ya, your data being sold.. the surveillance state basically. Any little push back on “we’ll rent access to everything forever while our data is mined” feels meaningful.
