A bit of #bloomscrolling to try'n brighten the bleak outlook.
I can always tell when I'm due for a spring frost, yesterday my early rhodies, camelia's & peaches were showing nicely, today.. all a bit brown lol.

I hear #ReptileFriday is a thing. We have only had a couple of warm days so far but on both we spotted some early common lizards taking advantage of the heat.

@raymaccarthy@mastodon.ie @helenclayton@mas.to I know the twa corbies well :) Rooks do definitely deliver a net benefit to farmers, huge feeder on docken grubs etc. sadly many farmers call all black birds crows and persecute them. As you say lambs do get injured and/or killed by crows, ravens and rooks but they usually have to be in poor shape to be a target. Ewes are quite vicious mums :)

@helenclayton@mas.to Nice idea :) I think my mobs of rooks would destroy it as even the metal ones end up in pieces!

@Wen Our cats used to sit on the ewe's backs and loved hanging about in the lambing shed, the sheepies seemed equally keen on the cats!

Replying to

@raymaccarthy@mastodon.ie @helenclayton@mas.to They are very clever, they lift the lids on my grain feeders and jam them open so they can have a free for all and I have had to securely attach everything so they don't carry them off. We have a large rookery just across the road which is an amazing thing to watch. Apart from the damage I don't begrudge them eating the bird food but some days I look out and it's like a black mass is being held in the garden! They also provide pretty great eco services to the area

@davidjamesweir I love the smell of Labrador tea, my plant gave up a few years back. It is the foliage/stem smells that attract me to many of the rhodies. I love the cinnabarinum group, the smell after rain is like a tropical jungle, all cinnamon, spice, citrus and cannabis.. yummy :)

@davidjamesweir I never expected to get into rhododendrons but got hooked in my early 20's and created a collection of cuttings from the collection at Barnhourie Mill and the dear Dr Paton who was already in her 90's at that point. My garden is full of mature specimens now :)
