@treyhunner@mastodon.social @frameadvance@mastodon.social FYI I just had the no-keyboard bug on Android, using Firefox. (The workaround of tapping the map worked just fine and wasn't unintuitive, so I wasn't stuck.)

@robin@social.riley.pub @freakboy3742@cloudisland.nz not trying to defend callous inattentive people here, but I will say there are forms of "name blindness" that make these mistakes easy to make, specifically with "ambiguous" names.

For me it seems my brain stores and looks up names as a whole, which makes it much harder to split off the first name. I literally have had that problem with Russell 😅 I apparently have him stored as "RussellKeithMagee", but not as "Russel". I'm often slightly surprised when people call him by his first name the first time in a convo, and if I try to use his first name (unprompted) without thinking about it, it's not "Russell". I have to actively reason about it, it doesn't come naturally, unlike with most names that have "obvious" first and last components.

Like I said, not an excuse, but it is a reason why I can see that happening when people don't take enough care (like they might not with strangers.)

@EWDurbin Dammit Ee :( Breaking things is bad, kay? No tips for arms specifically, but I will say: this will affect all of you, not just your typing or your arm. Do not underestimate how much time you will need to properly recover. Don't try to rush it. The impact on the rest of you can manifest in surprising ways, so take extra care!

In case people are wondering what I'm thinking of doing, I can't recommend the @incomparable Game Show podcast enough. Not just Feuding Families either, they're all funny in their own way. https://www.theincomparable.com/gameshow/

The Incomparable

Game Show

The people of The Incomparable play various games, including trivia, classic board games, word games, and even a few reimagined classic game shows from years gone by.

As a thank-you for reading all the way to the end, here's a picture of Akio trying to get some attention from Jamilla:

And if you want to see what the PSF was up to last year, Loren Crary, the PSF’s superb Director of Resource Development, made the 2021 Annual Impact Report sparkle and shine: https://www.python.org/psf/annual-report/2021/ I helped write a small part of it, and I could not be happier with how it turned out. It does a great job at showcasing all the things the PSF does and all the impact it has. If you don't understand why I'm so eager for people to support the PSF, take a look :)

And if you donate, make me (and Google) match you for 3x impact, by using @di’s PSF gift matching tool: https://matcher.pyfound.org/match/16/ I'll leave it open until December 30th, or until I hit the goal (which has happened in the past). And if you *really* want to make an impact, start your own gift matching drive by going to https://matcher.pyfound.org/ and telling all your friends and coworkers :)

Just to be clear, I’m deeply involved with the PSF. I’ve been on the Board of Directors for the last five years. I’ve been the Vice-Chair, and I’m currently the Chair. I was the interim General Manager for about six months while we were between Executive Directors. I’m also on the Python Steering Council, which is separate from the PSF but with a close relationship, and volunteer a lot at @pycon, which the PSF organises. I've seen the great work the amazing staff does up close.

In case anyone thinks “hey, this sounds familiar”, I’ve done this for a couple of years now, both the thread and the gift matching. The threads were on birdsite, and I won’t link to them (you can find them yourself if you really want to). Thanks to @willingc I did make the 2020 thread a blog post, though: https://pyrandom.blogspot.com/2020/12/why-i-want-people-to-donate-to-psf.html It's two years old but the sentiment is the same.

A few things have progressed since then. Last year the PSF hired Łukasz Langa as Developer-in-Residence, with his work being overseen by the Steering Council. The first year was paid for by Google, the second by Meta, and we already have leads on funding for a third year and beyond. We also successfully concluded the migration from bugs.python.org to GitHub Issues this year thanks to all the support from the PSF (and from GitHub).

We also had our wonderful Executive Director Ewa Jodlowska move on to new challenges (I spent another birdsite thread praising her work!) and after a careful search we hired @baconandcoconut as our new ED. She’s still getting up to speed, but she’s just as amazing as Ewa and I’m excited for the future of the PSF under her leadership, not to mention with the full support of the brilliant PSF staff.

@thejcannon Not only do I read all the answers, I have to group them somehow to make a meaningful quiz out of it.... So, thanks, I guess? 😂

@flooey Yep! I intentionally left it vague for the same reason: it's fascinating what different people know or perceive vs what others think they would know or perceive :) Like I said, there are no wrong answers, I'll be able to use all the "don't know" "what is that" "huh?" and "no" answers just as well as all the "real" answers :)

@ancoghlan @sethmlarson Apart from a bunch of "no"s, "can't"s and "they're all good modules Brent" answers, I don't think there were any particularly _invalid_ answers there. (I had to clean up some profanity and obvious nonsense elsewhere -- thanks, Drunk Barry! -- but not in these categories.) I do already know I'll have to get creative to actually make quiz rounds out of these questions, but I'll get there :) And as mentioned I'll post the data when I'm done :)
