I'm a Trans, Disabled, wheelchair-riding writer living in Pittsburgh, PA, historical Monongahela Territory. I write poetry, plays, short fiction and some wildly speculative essays!

Hobbies include fiber crafts/needlework, watercolors, and designing game assets in Blender.

Whimsy improves most things. Those it does not, deserve their gravity and weight. Two things (or even more!) can be true at the same time. Eyes open to see injustice, heart open too. <3

It is exhausting to log in and see yet another otherwise-cool person complaining about #AltText . Y'all realize what you sound like, right? "These damn Blind people, always wanting to know things just because everyone else gets to know them!" "The worst thing about going to the theater is the wheelchair ramps!" "I want doors with barriers you need to Leap over! Fuck short people!" Anyway yes, the biggest problem with Mastodon is that people want to be able to use it. *eyeroll*

@futzle My partner upon reading this post: "Naturally they're all answered by the same person" Me: "Ah yes, the musical trans femme coding entomologist! ...Well you know, one of 'em". ...I kinda love our little square of Net. We need to fix our racism problems, there's a preponderance of frequently conflicting individual standards and the learning curve to be happy with quality interactions over quantity can be steep. I hope we keep learning, but I still really like it. <3

It's now 'cool' to post photos and videos of death but I remember when it wasn't and that was awesome because survivors didn't get retraumatized and also algorithms didn't have the chance to spotlight violence against Black and Brown people in a bid to desensitize viewers to it. I wish people just didn't want to see it.

I'm working on a timeline-switching portal but I'm stuck on the quantum differential equations and I cant' find the right proportion of sassafrass to holy water. :(

Warning: Self-Involved Vent to the Void

My left arm keeps going numb, vision is doubled most of the time and it's all tied in with neuro problems that are also causing lots of pain. I'm off my psych meds so I can take Different meds for an infection I've had since November. Because timing is everything, one of my partners is also in crisis and we are frequently running into one another's energy, so t speak, interspersed with increasingly desperate apologies. There's more but naturally I'm out o

@Melezioh@mstdn.games My caregiver/best friend owns the house we live in now. It was his first after years of poverty/homelessness and represents a big achievement for him. We have Heavy survivor's guilt though, seeing first-hand exactly how much is saved by owning over renting. It's so frustrating how much luck had to do with how he got it at all. I hate how inaccessible this is to most people.

Giving a hand rn to someone who's a former Sex Worker, which is something we share. People have no concept - If a SW wants to break back into straight work, they have to somehow account for whatever gap/absence the SW represents on their resume, or be prepared to, at best, field a lot impertinent questions and then not get hired. She recently got hired pending bg check. Apparently her SW history precludes her from making fancy coffee, so she lost the offer. So much frustration for her.

@broadwaybabyto I don't have enough Black friends, statistically. The Black friends I do have are kind, understanding people who can somehow put up with my pale bs without actually imploding. I read a lot by Black writers to try to compensate. That's not a brag, it's a confession. I still don't know one. single. person. who thinks that Black kids stage hate crimes for their families to find. Anyone arguing against this, as far as I can tell, clearly never listens to any Black people at all.

RE: @SeanCasten@mastodon.social

"Chief Justice John Roberts says pixies live in his ears and tell him how to write decisions." - What I feel could replace virtually any quote by literally any of these people, without altering its accuracy or relative functional impact.

'Pixies Favor Trump!", the rightwing press would trumpet! "Is the Debate Over Pixies Too Divisive?!", the liberal press would respond.

And on we would go, whistling through Wonderland as the heat rises and rises.

Those at fault are pitiless. Those of us affiliated with their power, (white & American) may feel the harms being caused deeply, but be without definitive recourse.

We see them tear down opponents like paper and for all our calling, writing, meeting, marching we are stymied. And this is still nothing at all when compared to the lives we are ending. Mere empathy in these times feels empty.

We can sit and cradle our broken hearts, or we can use them as fuel to keep us searching for answers.

@dantheclamman Through a series of academic machinations I was given permission to write research papers in lieu of attending Bio classes in early 90s HS. (I was/am a horrific nerd). My most extensive was on zebra mussels and their impact on Lake Ontario, which was about three blocks north of the school. We also had three reactors outside town, and the mussels are a Massive problem for their cooling systems. It was a really harrowing subject to study even then, when the writing was on the wall.

@Mastodon@mastodon.social As a white, trans, queer, disabled person, I BEG you to hire a Black or Brown non-cis-man for this position. We (wpp) Think we can be objective. We Think we understand. We Do Not. Concurrently, anyone who has not experienced systemic misogyny is similarly unprepared. It is vital that Mastodon do this Differently than so many before, who assumed that awareness was the same as lived experience, or that all lived experience was the same. My 2 cents.

@yogthos@mas.to As someone from two military families, I'm so grateful for people like this officer who break with Massive brainwashing - "You will never be safe without your fellow soldiers" - to go against those who use them. Privilege probably helped him overcome that messaging in some ways, and I don't condemn more marginalized soldiers who lose freedom to economic, legal or systemic barriers. Embrace them when they come home, and also remember what the real enemy is: the Poverty-to-War Machine.

@bflipp@vmst.io I'm so sorry to hear this. Other employers have worked with some caregivers and/or partners to keep working from home even after these policies are implemented. My caregiver, who lives upstairs and shares air all the time with me, has such an arrangement with his company. If you could use tips on wording a request or getting something like this, DM me and I can connect you. He's also in HR, so he knows the ins and outs from their perspective.

@Danpiker@mathstodon.xyz I had the same issue as others, of being unable to look Only at one dot. When I stopped trying and just let my vision kind of skate between them though, they All started turning purple, which was cool. (Will mention I have both visual processing junk and non-Blind visual disabilities, but maybe anyone who switched focus often enough would get this?) ... Now I'm trying to figure out how to determine the periodic exposure necessary to maintain purple for all, oh no! ...rolls nerdily off
