@GlobalSumudF@mastox.eu I didn't even a change to put together my cynical post on how I knew the #IOF would violate the ceasefire, before they violated the ceasefire.

@Sassinake@mastodon.social @NanoRaptor@bitbang.social My very first PC (having finally hopped over from Atari m68k architecture) was an IBM PS/2E EnergyStar. It was a brilliant but eccentric attempt by IBM to build a high-efficiency, low-energy slimline "pizzabox" desktop that used a *lot* of technology from ThinkPads of the early/mid 90s, including a LCD monitor (pretty cutting edge for the era), soft power switching, low energy modes etc. One of the most eccentric elements though was expansion - it had a single ISA slot that came populated from the factory with a massive card running the full length of the machine that was a breakout card featuring no less than 4 PCMCIA slots - two going to the backplate, and two on the front facia, right next to the Thinkpad style slimline floppy drive. As a result, I spent the late 1990s becoming intimately familiar with the weird array of peripheral cards that could make use of PCMCIA, and came to have a lot of respect for them. I still think they were a bloody good design, to be honest :)

getting ready to represent my lot at #ALCA conference tomorrow.

Discovered I have exactly zero clothes that dont look like I've just come into town, fresh from some mishap in the Daintree involing a cassowary, misplaced confidence, and a showdown over a bucket of quandongs.

Bigot: "I believe in a tradition, like marriage being between a man and a woman! bring back the old way of life!"

Me: "I too believe in tradition, like stone arrowheads, fire by friction, and a temporary shelter woven from palm fronds."

@0ddj0bb@infosec.exchange @Nickiquote@mstdn.social I think the "fireworks" are the battery cells "popping" I think people don't fully realise just how frequent Tesla fires are. Elon has been slow in adopted LFP batteries which are much safer than older chemistry, and the "structural" packs Tesla use in many of their models are prone to catastrophic failure as the pa k itself is directly subjected to loading stresses of the vehicle when it corners or has a wheel in the air (something the CT should be able to bear given its "offroad" credentials - but remember it doesn't actually have a proper 4WD chassis frame)

I mean, this is actually legit good that public housing is going this, but do we really have technbros re-inventing a bog standard air con?

"Heat pumps" aren't new - they're just running the air con on reverse cycle hot mode. It's been the standard way for heating homes in Aus/NZ since forever.

This doesn't need eleborate techbros and startups. This just needs the housing comission to learn to press the mode button on the air con remote.

All electric. It's as clean as your grid, and usually about 300% efficient, so just use what we've already got rather than trying to reinvent a bog standard appliance that already works really. frikkin. well.

Historically, civilisational collapse has been horrific for rulers....For the rest of us? Not so much. Not so much at all.
