Watched The Black Hole (1979)

I would say 3/4 of it is actually really good and interesting. Certain aspects of it do really not hold up, but overall it's enjoyable. Even when the dialogue is "cheesy", it's still more well written than most modern stuff. Not very subtly references Christianity as well.

It's insane it came out the same year as Alien. For their similarities, Alien's world feels much more fleshed out and real. For some reason in my mind Alien was more of a 1989 movie instead of 1979, a real testament to it's achievement.

I get why people would say something like 2001: A Space Odyssey is boring, it's a bit slow and on the artistic side. One of the main reasons people enjoy it is the effort and prowess that went into getting the effects and shots correct. Certain movies will remain relevant, like to original Star Wars trilogy, due to it's effectively engrossing storyline, but I do wonder if in time things like 2001 will fall by the wayside after technology and the later generations reach a point where the craft and effort behind making such a movie becomes too antiquated and irrelevant. When you can prompt something to CG whatever you want, "ancient" techniques and models may be appreciated by a small subset of people, but most will likely just look at it as a relic of premodern times.

Still one of my favorite hits. Extremely cheap and dirty but amazing.
