mastodon 4.6.8Zen hermit monk on the North Pacific Coast.
Analysis reveals significant Pictish DNA in my genetic matrix. This probably offers important insight into my life and soul, but as with everything Pictish, no-one knows what.
That which does not kill me, makes me kinder.

@libreture@mastodon.social Thanks! There aren't words for how far I'm over corporate publishing.

I can top it. At the first No KIngs protest in my town, a guy was leading a golden retriever who was wearing a vest that said this on it.
All right, kid. You win this round.
Thanks to this technique, archaeologists know a great deal more about prehistoric textile technologies than they otherwise would.

You may be overlooking the very important "box" factor.

How about Star Trek characters? "Hurricane Sarek" actually sounds quite reasonable.

Hey, where's Olympia? We had 10,000 on the capitol campus. (Total population of the town proper: 50,000). Gorgeous weather helped.

@mitsunee@ieji.de @internetarchive@mastodon.archive.org @brewsterkahle@mastodon.archive.org I get what you're saying, but hiring means money paid to the human who owns the bot, and that person can in theory be identified and subpoenaed. Yeah, it's probably a needle in a haystack, but Authority has accomplished similar tasks when motivated. Seems like this kind of nonsense should become more difficult to pull off.
Like I've been saying for 30 years. Integration into the US economy is a dumb idea. And today it's recklessly self-destructive.
We have lots of attractive alternatives to that, that only start with economic ties, and lead to much more profitable relationships – profitable in many more ways than just money – with nations we have a lot more in common with.
An Australian spells it out here, on the occasion of Mr. Carney's mission to that country.

One other thing: if left to dry in the sun for a few years, they begin to crumble like they've been kilned. That's what happened to the one in the blog post; eventually the shell cracked its way out.

Couldn't tell you in technical terms. I can say that these things form at the bottom of the open ocean over at least 20 years by my reckoning.
I think your sulfate theory has legs; they look and also smell like mudflats sediments.
As for hardness, they're basically a medium-hard sandstone; you can break them with a hard blow from a claw hammer. After a night in the woodstove they turn dry and crumbly and can be reduced to a coarse powder with moderate pounding. (They turn orange in the kilning and I use the resulting ochre as mortar colour for brick repair.)
From that colour change I surmise there's a lot of iron in them, though that might also be because I usually collect pieces formed around steel, which had rusted on the bottom, of course.
All in all an interesting topic, the more so since I've found little info about it online.

@mitsunee@ieji.de @internetarchive@mastodon.archive.org @brewsterkahle@mastodon.archive.org Granted, but my point was never that it's easy, just that it's possible where the political capital exists.
Authority has accomplished enforcement when it has wanted to. Since it only cares about this type of crime when it's directly targeted by it, we're left with an Internet culture of bullying and vandalism -- one that promotes a high degree of expertise in this kind of terrorism.
But that's not going to challenge Authority down the line or anything.
Fascinating. What with fluency or near-fluency in a few Romance languages; reading fluency in Esperanto; and a background in history, religion, and the natural sciences, I can generally parse most these posts. When not entirely, at least I know what the subject is and generally what 's being done with/to/about it.
Better yet, as I read down your timeline, I get better at it. Proving your point.
All kinds of fun!
