Except there might be a lot of rich people's relatives renting from them suddenly this year. That might be splendid because either those people will have a good claim to the pad whether sugar daddy likes it or not, or conversely they'd need to plausibly look like they're living there.
No matter how you slice it I guess this is just forcing renting out hoarded units, which is great! Even if it starts at the top of the market, in the meantime the city is getting revenue. @warren @jmac @seano I've often thought about running a small-region server instance. One rule I thought of is that we have a standing monthly real life meetup time and location (because HAIL REAL LIFE!), and if you make an account and don't make it to a meetup in 90 days, the account is iced until I at least get a facetime with you.
Or is there something in the server that can work like a verified bluecheck? If so then you can have your account, but you only get a verified check if you show up to a flesh meeting.
Hiding URLs (including truncating them) is some sort of Languishing Automated Space Crapitalist future of #enshittification. How do you expect us to stay safe from scammers if you gouge out our eyes?
Indeed, it's not user friendly to make complete vital info hard to see. Specifically, I'm trying to actually inspect the URL behind a QR code with my phone camera, crucially *before* spreading my browser's legs to it, in sticky trusting cognito mode no less. Long-clicking on the truncated URL does neither jack nor shit.

(But of course in the case of Trothe Cential [sic], statistically no fediverse servers actually try to access them.)

@alan Yes that's amazingly low rural mileage. Less than 1Mm/month makes it hard to pencil out in the immediate term. I would say twice that is closer to the no-brainer-do-it-right-now line.
