First talk of today's #CablesOfResistance: a talk by Dr. Silvia Weko from #FAU (the university not the union) on the role of big tech in energy transition through cloud computing. Nice to see a nuanced view on the technologies followed by an analysis on how this leads to bi-directional, structural dependencies between energy and cloud computing companies. As noted yesterday in the keynote: interoperability only works between a small few cloud companies.

Which I think says more about how many understand software than about AI, though.

@tinker I see. I think I would agree that the police didn't systematically work outside the law. From an outside perspective though, I don't see much of a difference between the current behavior of the American military and ICE. I would say they are equally working extra-judicially, both more so since Trump has been running things again, but of course it's hard to compare from the outside (edit: but then again, my position would be working with the military is almost definitionally unethical).

Maybe this is just an artifact of the sad state of software engineering as a discipline - though while in uni, soon to be two decades ago, people would also talk about how software is misunderstood, so maybe this is just an echo of this understanding of software.

Letzteres ist aus meiner Sicht dort, wo die Vergesellschaftung erst relevant wird. Ich verstehe den Ansatz so, dass wir diesen Ansatz verfolgen sollten, um Technologien dem Allgemeinwohl dienen zu lassen (statt sie zu nationaliseren oder zu zerschlagen), was sich aus der Erfahrung demokratischer Staatsformen zB über Staatsferne, demokratischen Kontrolle realisieren lässt.

Thinking back to what @alineblankertz said in their talk, I think one of the key insights is that alternatives to big tech platforms still play the game of capitalism. I think that also applies to social media - the way forward may be socialization (rather than nationalization) of big tech to exert democratic control, rather than building new networks from the ground up.

Das allgemeine (und spannendere) Problem, dass die Gesetzesvorhaben nicht vollständig angesehen/verstanden werden, ist leider nichts neues und hat strukturelle Gründe (kurze Zeitabständen und intransparente Darstellung, siehe Diskussion rund um Synopsenpflicht).

Die sehe ich zwar bei der Union (und zT andere Parteien) auch, ich würde aber nicht unterstellen, dass die Union maßgeblich dafür existiert die Menschenwürde abzuschaffen (was ich bei den rechtsextremen Parteien schon sehe).

Which doesn't mean things are fine, it's just that you can't fight all the fights all the time (something I've had to learn the hard way as I've gotten older and less healthy)

Eine Partei lässt sich auch nicht verbieten, wenn sie beispielsweise mehr Schulden machen will, als die Schuldenbremse vorsieht (die ja auch im GG steht). Auch dort: der Staat, insbesondere die jeweils aktuelle Regierung, wird in der Pflicht genommen. (2/2)
Edit: es lässt sich natürlich darüber streiten ob das aktuelle System gut/adäquat ist, ich wollte nur darlegen wie es heute nach meinem Verständnis ist

@tammur@mastodon.social @wonka@chaos.social @pruef_de@mastodon.social auch wenn eine Partei massive zusätzliche fossile Subventionen ins Programm schreiben würde, führt das aber nicht zum Verbot, weil die Grundlage des Verbots nur die Gesamtordnung betrifft (Menschenwürde, parlamentarische Demokratie, Rechtsordnung) und nicht das GG als gesamtes.
Bei den Rest, wie auch 20a liegt der Auftrag beim Staat, der die Anforderungen umsetzen muss (was die mit Klimaschutzgesetz versucht). Reicht das nicht, muss der Staat mehr machen. (1/2)
