It's weird to me to see confusion about washing your hands versus sanitizing your hands. Wash your damn hands.

I've been using a method to log #HamRadio contacts using my smartphone that works pretty well. It involves using speech to text and OneNote. I don't need my logs in any specific format as I'm not uploading them anywhere. I can speak the frequency, the call sign, the signal reports, etc. All pretty much without looking at my phone. If the other party has good audio, I can cheat and just let the other party dictate right into OneNote.

Guess I could throw a trap in halfway down each wire so it would have a lower radiation angle on higher freq.

@ozeng@aus.social This explains a lot. I had an EFHW that was about 30+ ft vertical, and it didn't hear well on 10 - 15 meters. I was able to make contacts, but the setup in my car worked way better on those bands.

@douglasvb@m.ai6yr.org for me, the first thing I would do is definitely rule out the DSL itself. Can you have some stats from the DSL router/modem get pushed somewhere to watch for issues? I suppose your ISP has already been doing that.

So many businesses closed. Restaurants left as they were on their last day open. Not just in the old downtown areas. Everywhere we looked. I haven't been to these places in years. Compared to what things were like the last time, it made me sad.

Anyone have Visible Wireless (the MVNO run by Verizon that uses their network)? They have a limit on hotspot speeds, max is 15MB/s on high end plan. I have Verizon now that doesn't limit the hotspot speed, so I often get more than 150MB/s. But wondering if ultimately I don't need that speed anyways. The most bandwidth intensive thing I do with the hotspot is web meetings or streaming services. Visible is significantly less expensive and on the same network.

@HopelessDemigod@mstdn.social There is plenty of good history in Salem. Around the corner from this picture is where Alexander Graham Bell made the first "long distance" phone call to Boston. Called Lyceum Hall at the time, it is now a Seafood Restaurant.

@jzb@hachyderm.io Unnecessary urgency and/or unplanned work (due to someone else's poor planning) must be extinguished as soon as possible! People will try to push your buttons and tell you that it's expected of your job. In almost all cases, it is not.

@HopelessDemigod@mstdn.social Yea. Haunted by a bunch of idiots killing innocent people back in the day. And a city that's cashed in on it as much as they can.

Many of these folks that do airport streaming of aircraft activity are not very good camera operators. But they are doing _something_ that others enjoy watching. And they'll get better over time.

I just asked Copilot (consumer version) to help me locate an auto part. It just confidently informed me that the part should be in stock at a local Advance Auto Parts. The store they suggest doesn't exist. I scrolled down and it shows that AutoZone also has the part. Also at a store that doesn't exist.

Actually, I should model this to see if I'll have the same issues with a high angle of radiation for higher frequencies.

@LukaszOlejnik@mastodon.social Also noteworthy is that they proactively reached out to all of their customers with a memo that provided some detail about this. This isn't typical for Oracle.

@ozeng@aus.social Kinda what I'm trying to understand is what angle of radiation to expect if most/all of the antenna were vertical.

@leerayl@infosec.exchange tnx. I've realized that my needs today aren't what they used to be. And I'm paying for stuff I don't really need.
