I went for a walk hoping to see our neighborhood heron. It was pretty far away, good thing I had a long lens! This is where Alewife Brook flows into the Mystic River.

I'm getting better at the hockey. I can control the puck better, I'm passing better (except there's almost never anyone open to pass to). I even took a shot on goal from the point, but it was deflected.
On defense I was able to keep an opponent to the outside instead of going to center during a 3-on-2, and I was able to hang in and take shot opportunities away from faster opponents.
I did fall down a couple times behind one of the goals which was frustrating, but then the ref told me that the Zamboni had left a pile of water there that had frozen into a ridge.
Didn't injure myself, didn't puke, didn't knock anyone over. Now if I could just skate faster!

Hey, I got my first roll of film that I shot through my Pentax ME Super back from the lab! And 30 of the frames look like this.
I thought I had the film adequately stuck in to the takeup spindle, but apparently not. The ME Super has an unusual takeup slot configuration. The first few frames had images because the sprockets were pulling the film out of the canister, but it was just getting shoved into the takeup cavity without being wound on the spindle, and eventually it came off the sprockets and stopped advancing. The frames that worked confirmed that the camera mechanism and meter work just fine, it just has a user problem.
It's too bad, there were some compositions I thought were really nice and was looking forward to seeing. Lesson learned.

There's an item I'm watching on an online auction that ends tomorrow. Nobody has bid on it, which is unusual for this type of item at this auction site (especially for this subtype of item, and more so for this manufacturer). It could be due to the auction manager's misspelling of the manufacturer's name - the first letter is wrong. I wonder if people mainly have searches/alerts set for (correctly spelled) manufacturers, and not for the generic item type.
Typically the bids would have started going up by this point. I don't want to get my hopes up, but maybe I'll get lucky this time!
Yes, I'm being vague on purpose. After the hammer falls I'll come back and either brag about my acquisition or whine about not getting it.

I want to play some semi-organized sports, either soccer or hockey, in Arlington MA or nearby towns. I'm an old out-of-shape dude who hasn't played sports in decades. Leagues or pick-up games would be fine. I've looked at some leagues, but they're too serious, too athletic, too expensive or have schedules/locations that don't align with mine. Anyone have any ideas?

Before last week I hadn't played ice hockey since the U.S. bicentennial. Last Friday I did a 50 minute skills session, followed by a 50 minute game. It's almost a week later, and my hip flexors are still very, very angry with me. Like, screaming-at-me angry.

@davetansley@mastodon.world A good source is the KEXP channel on YouTube. Some bands I've found there and liked a lot, which might align with your tastes: Castle Rat, Pixel Grip, Angine de Poitrine (that one's a must-listen!), Glass Beams, Descartes et Kant.
There's a Norwegian band called Leprous that is amazing, they're constantly evolving and have journeyed through metal and prog. There's a video of them on YouTube being challenged to cover Aha's "Take On Me" in one day, and it's brilliant. It's on a channel called Musora, which has a whole series challenging bands to cover old songs in their own styles, it's a pretty fun music discovery avenue.
