I would say simply this:
There is exactly no need for a car to have its own connection to the internet. None.
Cars have worked, generally, pretty well for a hundred fucking years without one and they can continue to do so.
If a manufacturer is telling you that an active internet connection is required for system updates I would simply ask why they have chosen to reduce the acceptable levels of quality of the vehicles they put out for sale.
