Too many first time candidates think they should shoot for national office without any track record to present to voters. So voters vote for the more familiar names over and over.

@JoBlakely@mastodon.social I assume they make the opening vague so they can use “BREAKING NEWS!!!” graphics all day long for the same stale news. There was a piece some time back where the author asserted that creating ‘outrage’ was the sole point of cable news, not actually reporting news. Outraged viewers stay tuned in and return for additional doses of outrage.

@emptywheel With regards to the comment on “illegal immigration”, I wish that Harris and others would explain OFTEN that if an immigrant requests asylum, they’re not illegal at that moment. But their case must be investigated and adjudicated, and there aren’t enough judges to do so quickly, nor any place to house them while they wait. So, 2 choices: We either violate international law by deporting a possibly rightful asylum seeker, or we release them pending their hearing. No?

I’m listening to Nancy Cordes (“Are you a stupid person?”) interview Mike Turner, and allow him to completely gaslight the exit from Afghanistan without pushback. She finally notes that Trump was previously involved, but failed to mention that he negotiated the terms, drew down troop deployments and freed thousands of Taliban prior to Biden’s involvement. This failure to insist on facts is why I gave up on Meet the Press and it appears likely that I will drop Face the Nation as well. RIP news.
