@Tutanota@mastodon.social I’ve been gradually reducing my reliance on many Big Tech services for the last year — and in most cases I’ve been able to replace them with #OpenSource and/or European alternatives. I’ve also signed a citizens’ initiative here in Finland that seeks to enshrine #DigitalSovereignty into law.

I’m not a fan of side tabs, and having them at the bottom (instead of the top) makes the browser look less cluttered in my eyes. I’m on macOS, so there’s no task bar there either, and the end result is very clean and minimalistic.

It’s surprisingly intuitive, too. Maybe it’s because many operating systems have programs at the bottom of the screen, but it felt like I already had that part in my muscle memory.

So in short, it just *feels* right. Perhaps it’s the rebel in me!

@Lanske@mastodon.social @Tutanota@mastodon.social Thanks! I’ve now had a couple of days with the Legend plan, and it’s been an absolute breeze to use. Tuta definitely leans into the more minimalist side of UI/UX, which is exactly my preference in an email (+ calendar and/or cloud storage) client. I’ve really enjoyed it so far. And from a more aesthetic standpoint, I like their overall style both as a company and a product. Obviously the cryptography side of things is very impressive, but the user experience is what makes or breaks a product.

This was a thoroughly eye-opening read — not that it comes as much of a surprise that the Artificial Intelligence industry rests on a rotten foundation, but I am a bit taken aback by the extent to which it is already embedded in our economy and its various interconnected systems.

The numbers cited from OpenAI’s ”burn rate” forecast are staggering. I think we are in need of a new turn of phrase, because ”hemorrhaging money” doesn’t even begin to describe the reality of the situation.
