We are approximately $1,500 away from being able to get a car, and as a disabled couple, that would allow us to have a steady income (employment and saving funds would drastically change things for us).. There is more info in the fundraiser if you'd like to get more understanding! You'll also see the secondary goal is my top surgery, which won't be as difficult to accomplish either once we have a car. Plus, with Betty seeking employment, her finding even a part-time job alongside my art commission earnings could get us the proof of income to get us housed!! This afternoon, we wrote an update detailing how a vehicle will help me show up for and protect my little sisters, who are children in the care of their disabled trans mother living in a red state. Being hundreds of miles away without a vehicle means I cannot show up for them in times of emergency, and seeing as we are DV survivors as well, I am always very concerned about my girls.
This is a vital element, on top of a vehicle providing us with a means of income and transportation to things like medical appointments. We have $1600 saved as of right now, and could probably get a working used vehicle if we had $2500-3000. This CAN be met if folks chip in and share our fundraiser where they can. My partner @magicalgrrrl@indiepocalypse.social and I are trying to get a car, and it would help in so many ways. A sustainable income being one, and my little sisters being another important factor.

Of course, living in America as disabled folks (and trans folks, and repeated trauma survivors) is made a bit better with a working car. Accessible employment, delivery gigs, and picking up our groceries rather than needing them delivered or using Betty’s precious energy to walk and pick up a couple days’ worth of food… those are just some of the ways it would help. As well as transportation to medical appointments. I have a top surgery consultation in June and if we have to uber it will be expensive getting to that appointment and others.. I can’t imagine how it’ll be if I have to uber after getting surgery..

And as someone who has lived through many traumas since birth, being this far (a few states) away from my sisters is absolutely gut-wrenching. Missing birthdays, holidays, and even their joy from prom. Not being able to visit them. Not being able to watch them grow up. Or make sure they’re safe. I truly want and need to be able to see them regularly.

Plus, I would be beyond appreciative if we could raise the additional $1000 at least to get a used car, as soon as we can.. I’ve been in a really bad state for a few years now and just know if I cannot seriously rest soon I will collapse in more ways than I already have. If we have a car and Betty can bring in a regular income I feel it would save my life.

Due to living out of a hotel, and there being cockroaches here, I don’t have anywhere to put my clothes except between the bed and my walker. Sometimes I worry based on my symptoms that I have me/cfs but then I realize even if I do I can’t really accommodate myself to actually help because of how constantly stressful and difficult this situation is, and the fact I have to keep working on my arts to the best of my abilities every day so we can have any income.
