It occurs to me that the reason people love to use "AI" is because they don't want to/don't know how to deal with mental friction.
It's work to sort out what you believe when faced with conflicting information. So much simpler if the universe just gives you the solution, right? Why spend a moment of your life wrestling with cognitive dissonance when the spicy autocorrect generator can tell you what to think.
But isn't the friction the point? Isn't sorting through opposing points of view & data the way we form our understanding of the world & ourselves? Isn't considering how odd shaped thoughts might fit together how creativity happens?
There is a saying I learned as a PT student studying anatomy: form follows function. Bones and muscles that are used are remodeled to be better at that purpose. Cease using them & atrophy is the result.
Our minds also follow this rule. Remove all need to actively think and lose the ability to think.
I won't use "AI"-- at all. Not for simple web searches, not to research or write my novels. Because how you form the question & how you analyze the answer in light of everything else you believe is the point.
Another analogy: you can't stop or change direction if you're driving on a road with no friction. You'll just eventually crash.

Just for my own curiosity... Have you ever named your car? And are there differences in the car naming practices between folks who describe themselves as creative people and those who don't?
Please boost!

Ahoy pottery folk on fedi! Someone in my town is selling a randall kick wheel with a motor & dozens of plaster bats. She told me to make an offer but I have no idea how much.
Any idea what a fair price would be?

@mlanger@mastodon.world @mo@icelandphotos.co.uk so cool! We had the chance to experience totality in Vermont a few years ago. It was incredible. An experience of a lifetime.

@fbz@infosec.exchange that's so cool! Are you thinking of grafting? We have what i call "new england ugly apples" on an ancient tree that came with our property. I think they were cider apples - small & very tart - but the tree is so robust, I'm thinking of grafting some other varieties onto it.

@limebar@mastodon.social I'm a writer. I won't use AI for anything. There is no place in creative work of any kind for AI. My cover art is made by a human artist. My editor is a human. My audiobooks are narrated & produced by humans. I have to believe that matters.

@mlanger@mastodon.world @DMakarios@theres.life The terrible irony for me as an author is without Amazon, i wouldn't have a career as an indie published writer. It still counts for half my sales. I don't/won't use DRM in my ebooks & have a note in each of them that if someone needs the ebook they bought at Amazon free of that ecosystem, i will send it directly.
