mastodon 4.8.0-nightly.2026-10-06#Holos - a mobile ActivityPub server that runs on your phone. A relay server maintains your stable identity when you're offline. Switch between text, photos, videos, and articles from a single account. Currently in private development, sharing progress with the community.
I will investigate the issue with #HolosDiscover. Since another bot was launched on holm.community, I have been getting several complaints:
I contacted the maintainer to ask whether the code was changed. This should never happen. These complaints only started after that bot appeared.
I am taking this very seriously. If the problem is in my code, I will fix it immediately. Sorry about that.

Now it's clearly time to let iOS users give #HolosSocial a try. It's still early, but no reason to keep delaying the iOS release. The project is mature enough for both Android and iOS.
When trying to follow a #Holos account from another account (Mastodon, Pleroma, etc.), seeing a pending request is normal even if the account is not locked. The server runs on the device and the relay cannot sign activities on its behalf, so the "Accept" is automatically sent once the app is back online.
#Holos 1.5.3 is available.
New: in-app notification banner when interactions arrive while using the app. Tapping a DM notification now scrolls to and highlights the message.
Leading mentions are no longer shown in DM conversations.
It also brings a fix for a UI freeze during inbox cleanup.

Emoji reactions on messages are now supported. Messages are quotable through Mastodon. The regression on loading more messages has been fixed, along with an #iOS crash occurring after a minute of use.
Next step with #Holos and custom domains: being able to use your root domain as your identity. A subdomain would point to the relay via CNAME, but your identity would use your root domain.
I will write a small how-to to make the setup straightforward for everyone.
If you don't have a backup configured on #Holos, losing your device or reinstalling the app means losing your followers and control over your posts.
I'm working on an automatic encrypted recovery system. Your private key, followers, following, and posts will be backed up to the relay, encrypted with a passphrase only you know. The server never sees any of it. On a new device or a fresh install, just enter your passphrase and everything is restored.
#Holos is now under review for TestFlight! Once approved, I'll add #iOS testers by email invitation (no public link to avoid ghost accounts).
Regarding #AltStore: the current source works with AltStore Classic (sideloading via computer). AltStore PAL (EU marketplace) requires Apple notarization, which I haven't applied for yet.

If you encounter issues with #HolosSocial, you can help by enabling crash reports. Go to Settings, search for "Crash Reports", and enable it. Reports are stored locally on your device, no data is sent externally. You can view, copy, or share them on the issue tracker:

Classic AltStore: use the AltStore link on the website. Do not open it in a browser, as it will only show the raw file. AltStore must open it.
A fix has been deployed to the relay for people receiving push notifications with mentions unrelated to their account.
That was noise from public messages landing in the shared Inbox. No app update needed.
#Holos 1.1.2 has been published.
This release fixes backup to disk that was incorrectly opening a share dialog, a timeout issue with push registration, and reply mentions showing as @Unknown@mastodon.social in the local timeline. Also fixed signup that could misleadingly suggest registration on a custom domain.
