I love the cinema, language, crafts, history, politics, UK culture and quirky things, photography, museums and historical sites. Luckily I live in London, lots of opportunities to go see things, learn stuff.
I'm learning Italian and French right now (and will share some phrases I like and want to remember, via #FrenchPhrase, and may do #ItalianPhrase too). I first joined Mastodon in 2022.

If you want to follow me, please use your profile to tell the world a bit about yourself, thank you.

Maybe I should have puréed it, I don't know. This is the first time in ages that I cooked something from scratch. I'm just so disappointed. In other cooking related news, I asked a friend if she would teach me how to cook a chicken curry. We're doing that next weekend. I will be taking lots of notes, maybe take pics of the spices of hers that she said we can use. Wish me luck...

@drahardja@sfba.social Orbàn put a heck of a lot of structural obstacles in the way to try and stay in power. Those kinds of structures are very difficult to establish in the US: the voting system is local, not centralised. I recommend for disenchanted Americans to vote like their lives depend on it to prevent further attempts by Trump and his cronies. Don't give up when you have power. Vote in all elections. @raven@fedi.raventhemaker.com I like dim wit, numskull, nitwit, simpleton, dolt and dunce. Works well with a variety of adjectives like beknighted, blissful, intelligence-challenged, bitchy, vain, entitled... whatever fits the bill. I suppose snide, spiteful or catty also works instead of bitchy.

...visits that are also recorded in the My Ticket section of my fave cinema. I just really like being able to look up what I've seen, when I went, that kind of thing. I'm such a nut when it comes to collecting bits and pieces. Of anything. I don't look at most photos again, but I may want to! Still good to reduce the excess a bit. I want to find systems for easy info retrieval. I don't like that I can often not find a photo unless by chance. 'Tags' I guess are the answer, make my PC work for me

@phlash @EllenInEdmonton Thank you! I hope to carry out the practical parts of the cooking process myself (for the muscle memory), otherwise it won't sink in as well. And make enough notes to look back on. Photos are a really great idea there too. 🥘

...Theorist. I'm just realising these other roles belong to different parts of the process of interacting with data. I like organising the info I gather as well, but I'm not as good at that than collecting it in the first place. I might look into the Second Brain concept again, one day. For now I'm happy to find that I can bear deleting some screenshots again, when no longer useful (maps/timetables I already referred to, or past events), so nice to reduce the volume. Some records too: cinema...

@WataruTenkawa_1 Aging is an interesting experience. I'm trying to figure out at present what that will look like for me (gnarled but still producing serene blossoms is a great metaphor to aim for!), and how to approach it a bit more consciously.

@stahldame Ahh! That makes a lot of sense, I'll think of that next time. The grated cheese improved things, not a huge amount but it was better. Maybe I can add umani as another category. I had some salt in it, oil and lemon. I hadn't tried sugar. Definitely something to try next time. Thank you!

@bougiewonderland Oh god That reminds me that I saw someone hold her crochet piece pretty much like that, trying to learn. I kept telling her to hold it where she should, but she didnt. She even kept letting go. Finally said that crochet was a lot more difficult than she expected. I gave up in the end.

@dianalizia@writing.exchange Glad to hear! Sorry to hear of the unravelling. I tried to tell myself that if it was fun to do the first time, even if wrong, then it's fun to do a second time. Not totally sure that this always works for me, but I've been know to occasionally regret finishing a knit project because it was so fun to work on.

@dianalizia@writing.exchange Oh my giddy aunt this is seriously bad advice. Mohair for crochet? I'm a very experienced crafter and I just wouldn't use mohair for anything but knitting. I don't believe that this lady made anything in her life because a couple of hours is totally hogwash, unless you use the biggest ever hook with rope-like yarn, maybe... Please don't be discouraged, I hope you find crocheting itself fun and relaxing. A couple of hours is not achievable, not even for me and I've crafted 40+ years

@adhdjesse@mstdn.social You can search by hashtag and for account names. You don't need the full name. Searching hashtags is somewhat limited (but not restricted to just one instance), I think it relates to whether interaction by you or someone else on your instance brought that content within reach of your instance. If instance/s are not federated by your instance then you don't see those. But you can definitely search for accounts on lots of different servers.

@raven That's a shame. I found that I don't remember all that much from childhood or youth. I chucked a diary from some teenage years because it was all about living in my head and shaping myself into bretzels over it. It was so off-putting to skim that I chucked it. I'm happier with my approach to life now. I have a few mementos from when I was younger, I think I'm okay with those. My siblings occasionally refresh my memory, they usually know stuff that I don't recall. Weird thing, memory.

@raven But it can make us feel a bit down to want more mementos than we have. Could you look for some? Maybe old newspaper clippings or photos of the place you grew up in? It might jog personal memories.

@libramoon@mastodon.social @morganth@social.tchncs.de That's horrible, what an awful way of finding out that they were good weather "friends". Like someone else on here said, I hope you made and are making friends who are capable of being real friends. Listening, allowing a friend to talk out a traumatic experience and supporting you with empathy: that's not a big ask. It's actually a pretty low bar. Wishing you well, and that you can surround yourself with people much more worth your time. All the best!
