#WritersCoffeeClub End of the month roundup: How well did this month go for you?

I think it was this month that I got the opening new chapter of my wip drafted 🤔. There's a lot of pieces, some outdated, to assemble and revise so it will be slow going. But it was nice to see some new (and positive 😉) reviews on Sythe Series.

It was very productive for non-fiction, as I got 3 blog posts on indie authoring fully drafted and ought by the end of today to have a 4th ready to publish.

31. Does your MC have a role model they look up to? If so, who?

Rarkin looks up to lots of people, for different reasons

-how his new best friend Miona doesn't let discrimination get her down, and her skill in hand to hand combat.

-the way Amon just wears their feelings on their sleeve, for everyone to see.

-the seamless teamwork and trust in each other's abilities that Jurar's Sythe team has.

-Rinth's tactfulness in looking out for other people's feelings.

I may not currently have the skills to write political thriller, but with strong elements of those in the next SciFi-Fantasy wip I'll write, and a background in action/ adventure epic SFF, and having ventured into crime in my previous book; I think I'll get there.

For writing: having a book drafted, but outdated, as book 1 & 2 edits developed characters differently, & I've new plot ideas. How to assemble all the pieces 🤔

Marketing is plodding along. I'm Starting to get a sale or 2 from Kobo direct in house promos, & clicks, if not sales from Bookbub ads. Itch multi author bundles may be slowing, & I'm starting to table at bookfairs & approach indie stores.

Querying is a gamble of return on investment of your time and energy. You can query hundreds of agents, with multiple books, and end up with no published book to show for your efforts.

Self publishing doesn't gamble roi in that a book WILL be published, not coz its anticipated to make a publisher $, but coz the author believes the story is worth telling, even to its target audience of 10 people (🤞 its more than 10!)

#WritersCoffeeClub July 31, end of the month roundup: What will you do differently next month?

Likely write only non-fiction; assignments for the last 3 months of the Uni certificate I'm doing for work.

Study and teaching will likely take up most of my time, with writing and authoring admin on the sidelines, if I've got any spoons left for them.

I also want to try & exercise every day, & take my ADHD meds on study, as well as work days, to ward off brain fog more effectively.

It was once the final book of Ruarnon Trilogy, involving multiple kingdoms, alliances and secret organisations in a multi sided conflict.

But is it now balancing Rarkin's exploration of his autism, trauma & healing, being aro-ace & gay, & having an epic, mystery & crime related plot in Sythe Series book 2🤔

My wip, Skirting the Fires of Revolution (Sythe book 3) will likely get complex enough to trump both 😄

22 years since I sought closure for friends lost touch with, envisioning a fictional escape from family violence for them, full of action, friendship, adventure & monsters; Walking the Knife's Edge is out today!

To contain monsters & survive Organised Crime's bold tactics, Rarkin must confront his trauma head on, & break the cycle of violence in his family.
