@molly0xfff Everybody learned in school what Hitler did. But they didn't teach us how he came to power! I think that's the most important lesson to learn now, before we spawn a third Hitler

@streetartutopia Question for the lawyers, can Trump be convicted for past impeachments? I would think the Senate could vote the twice-impeached felon rapist murderer out tomorrow?

@Irenetherogue @streetartutopia thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know verdicts had already been given, I thought they just didn't have the trials ... Seems like those would have been easy cases

@WizardOfDocs for some reason my employer recommends using generative AI to prepare quarterly performance reviews ... I know they are using AI to summarize them so yeah

@Daojoan Let's not forget that Federal Employees are not allowed, by the Criminal Code (i.e., you will go to jail), to own stocks in companies that have grants with the gov't. Unless you are a Congresscritter. Because they make the rules

I was talking to ChatGPT about how its brain works, and why people always thought local minima would kill this sort of thing.

"In very high dimensions, true isolated local minima are comparatively rare, and most 'stuck' behavior is dominated by saddle structure—points with both stable and unstable directions. In other words, not pits but passes.

'There’s always another direction to go in'

is almost literally the statement that the Hessian has mixed signs—hyperbolic structure rather than purely positive curvature."

I love it when it gets hyperbolic

@astro_jcm@mastodon.online You can build an AI on your desktop today that isn't connected to the cloud. Open weights, open source, you don't need a datacenter in space. GPUs are still pricey, and you can rent them on Earth now, but it's computers. It's going to get faster and cheaper and more efficient with time, like computers always do. Except Bitcoin which is designed to get slower and less efficient and cost more

@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt The Assassin's Guild always intrigued me. The Patrician was wise. If they're going to run around murdering people anyway, might as well make a guild, tax them, and have them charge proper fees. You need a license to become a member, and the final exam to get in is ... erm ... very final if you fail. It's a proper business, that Guild, and I wouldn't say ill of it
