Apollo 11 launched 57 years ago today on July 16, 1969. Many years later, my kids and I made this stop motion film. We hope you enjoy it and remember always to look up and that anything is possible when we work together.

The rising temperatures have thawed my sketchbook. Last night’s sketch atop this morning’s walk.
When the kids saw these hummingbird feeders you could wear as rings, I really didn’t think they were going to work.
The 12 and 7yo are putting on a play trial and asking me procedural questions. This could go very well or very badly. I’m threading a needle.
I was feeling down, major case of the Sundays, plus… you know, everything. Well, today is my turn to pick the family’s Sunday matinee, and I’ve decided what will make me feel better is watching Indy punch some Nazis. This will be the kids’ first viewing.

Two highlights: (1) the 7yo, 12yo, my wife, and I all played TMNT together; and (2) I got the high score on Ms. Pac-Man (because they reset it daily). ;)
When my daughter was 3 she announced she was going to the moon. She's 7, and tonight she got to watch Christina Koch head to the moon as part of Artemis II. Representation matters, and though some folks in this admin might not celebrate this shattering of the highest glass ceiling, we can. 🚀 🌗 👩🚀

Intermediate civics achievement unlocked. Today we voted in a municipal election, made use of a municipal service (the library), and protested the federal executive. This was my daughter’s favorite #NoKings sign.

There is no path back to anything approaching "normal" geopolitics (or domestic politics for that matter) that doesn't go through impeachment, removal, and trials.

The poems are drawn from this poetry dataset¹ which parsed the work of folks @gutenberg.org. I filtered the dataset on author (Dickinson) & manually removed text that clearly wasn't a poem (e.g., bits of the preface).

I then removed leading roman numerals & parsed individual stanzas based on line breaks. I included any titles (i.e., leading single lines) with the first stanza. I removed any poems with "stanzas" over 300 characters to make sure they'd fit in a single post.

I know the Todd & Higginson versions found in the Gutenberg texts aren't the only ones. Heck, they aren't even my favorite version, but they were how I, and the world, were first exposed to these poems. Plus, they were easily accessible for what started out as a spontaneous couple-hour bot build. ;)

The bot looks over this cleaned up collection an picks a random poem and posts it every morning. If the poem has more than one stanza, it is posted as a thread with each post corresponding to a single stanza (as in the quoted post at the top of this thread).
Just realized that I described ML as the OG AI on a call, and I can’t decide if I should cringe or hold my head high.
I used to worry that kids these days would never know the joy of waiting for code to compile.¹ I even began to fear sharing such tales was my generation's version of "walking to school uphill both ways," but I see now they have "I'm waiting for my agents!"

I spend a lot more time looking at my kids' faces than I do looking at my own. So, it's weird when I see an old picture of myself and my brain's first response is, "Hey, that person looks like my kid."
