Would you believe my mum is 98. She looked like a film star when we were growing up. It was hard to keep up the standards she expected from her daughters.

97 yr old mum is taking industrial action at the care home. The Management is making them do their own breakfasts at the buffet including making toast with toaster provided. They are all in there because of balance issues mainly and falls. They are in danger of falling because of this new policy. Mum read the riot act and refused to stand in the queue. They served her. She’s going to the office on Monday to read the riot act.
My severely disabled sister who has immuno suppressant infusions monthly has to go for a scan a few days ago. Now she has come down with a virus and she’s really ill. We suspect she caught it at the hospital. There is no protection for our vulnerable any more. Hospitals are unsafe.
Daughter and SIL hosted my mums 98th birthday gathering today. All but two families attended. It was a beautiful setting on a lifestyle block in Waimauku. It’s a dead flat property with about an acre of pristine lawns around the house. Mum had lots of photos taken with her many family members. I got confused when introducing some of the little ones to the adults. I couldn’t remember if they were great Uncles or cousins at one stage. I think I got 1000 hugs from the children present.

@pipesunlimited Salmon is so expensive. NZ salmon not being sold by Woolworths they’re apparently bringing in Tasmanian salmon as Regal far too pricey. Once upon a time I had salmon twice a week. My youngest daughter always has a whole salmon on Christmas Day on the buffet. I nearly passed out when she told me the price of the 2025 Christmas salmon. In fact the cost of her Christmas menu was staggering. She’s a fabulous cook and everything was delicious.

@BobLefridge@mastodon.nz The one and only Cruise my son took with his family ended up with everyone catching Norovirus. Since then they have travelled in places like Vietnam and small Pacific Islands, eaten food cooked in local homes where living conditions were very basic and never been ill or caught any bugs.

@justinknol@aus.social @KiwiEV@mastodon.nz You might say that. It was a shield from the kids demands in my case. 30 mins of peace.
A very good cause if you’re able to help.

@pipesunlimited Not my toilet. The heat pump heats the entire little house. I leave all the interior doors open.

@withaveeay It’s a cost saving exercise in my opinion. They only need one supervisor not a couple of servers. There’s over 150 residents in three levels of care. Three separate sectors. Imagine the money rolling in.

@FluentInFinance@mastodon.social you have an awful lot of people living on the breadline it appears. That’s Neo Liberalism in action.

@JesseSkinner@toot.cafe I love the lack of conflict, trolling and verbal abuse. It’s adult conversation. Such a change.

@lin Wonder if he came from a Kiwi Sailing family. Some families cruise with their pets.
It’s raining ( again)
