I'm a game developer, journalist and YouTuber specialising in content about Nintendo games. And now I'm trying out Mastodon too!
So apparently not only did someone decide to relaunch #Twitter, they screwed it up as badly as Musk too.
The app is vibe coded and you can apparently avoid paying by registering on Firebase directly. Accounts leak personal info. Terms say they can train AI on your posts:
for developing, training, testing, evaluating, and improving artificial intelligence, machine-learning
https://twitter.now/terms-of-service/
Fact checking is done by AI (Google Gemini).
Yeah no thanks.
Am I crazy or does the #NintendoSwitch still feel recent to anyone else? Everyone else seems to be like “yeah it’s a decade old now, games like BotW are old news”. Do you think of the Nintendo Switch as an old console?
The funny thing about video game modding and ROM hacking is it’s basically legacy software development as a hobby.
You’re adding features and changes to a project whose original developers have long left and who basically provided no documentation at all.
In other words, it’s like a software engineering job from hell. But that challenge and awkwardness is all part of the fun…
Seen a lot of comments about the #Zelda #OcarinaofTime remake getting an E10+ rating and how it may tone down some elements.
Yeah, that’s probably not happening. You know what else got that rating? #TearsoftheKingdom with everyone’s most horrifying Zelda mini boss…
Gonna be honest, if the universe is a simulation it’s awfully poorly designed. Like, why should climate change even be possible? Why have these terrible physics?
Just do what Donkey Kong Bananza or Mario Odyssey do and have damage done reset over time. Or like Zelda with the Blood Moon cycle.
Wouldn’t it be much better world design if every 24 hours, the atmosphere reset, water was pure again, all resources were renewed and microplastics vanished?
For a bank holiday Monday, have some pet pics.
Spot the dog this Monday!
For this #vgmwednesday, here’s probably the best cover of the Hyrule Castle theme from #Zelda A Link to the Past I ever heard, courtesy of YouTuber The Noble Demon:
For this #vgmwednesday, here’s the castle theme from the original #YoshisIsland:

Plus an awesome remastered version:

God, the original Yoshi’s Island hit just the right point between cute and menacing, and felt a lot more interesting than its sequels because of it.
So LinkedIn added a button to report AI slop.
https://www.404media.co/linkedin-introduces-a-seems-like-ai-slop-button/
But is any content on LinkedIn not slop to begin with? I suspect at least 90% of that site is AI at this point, and about 98% is basically slop in general.
Did you know that just viewing a Blue Hinox in the Hyrule Compendium can crash #Zelda #BreathoftheWild? Learn more here:
Gonna be honest, the most depressing thing at the moment is how I feel like I’m never part of any group or community.
YouTubers for any series? Nope.
Game developers and modders? Nope.
Writers and bloggers and journalists? Nope.
Techies and software engineers? Nope.
Every field I’m in and hobby I have, I just see the in crowd having the time of their lives with no recognition at all. It’s like I can get likes and retweets, but never anything more than that.
Gonna be honest, one of the most annoying things about modern social media and fandom is how exaggerated everyone’s opinions of games and other forms of media are now.
Everything is always either the best thing ever made or the worst thing to ever happen to the franchise, with barely any opinions in between.
No folks, the Mario Galaxy Movie is neither a masterpiece nor ‘worse than AI’.
Gonna be blunt here… we cannot afford a second Covid style pandemic. We cannot afford another 3 years of lockdowns.
If this Hantavirus thing leaves that ship, society is absolutely screwed, especially with the current leaders in charge.
Keep that ship and everyone on it in quarantine until things get better.
Gonna be honest, it’s not wrong to have a limited taste in video games (or any other form of art or media).
There are people who just like Mario or Zelda. People who just read Marvel or DC comics. People who just listen to one musician or band, etc.
So long as you’re not getting annoyed that the one series or creator you care about isn’t putting out work 24/7, who cares?
Let people enjoy things the way they want to.
Just wrote about the #SuperMarioGalaxy2 update and the new storybook chapter it contains:

For this #vgmwednesday, here’s the final boss theme from #MarioTennis Aces, to celebrate the game being added to #NintendoMusic:

God, they really need a song like this for the Wimbledon finals!
I beat every layer on every difficulty level in #DonkeyKongBananza’s Emerald Rush DLC. That’s everything in the game officially complete.
Also posted a new interview on the site, this time with gaming YouTuber and LPer Soulsmidknight:

Well that’s another Emerald Rush event down in #DonkeyKongBananza. This was one of the easier ones overall.
God, my situation feels so isolating sometimes. Wish I had some folks that would actually talk on a semi regular basis.
But eh, I don’t know anyone who’d actually be interested unfortunately.
Posted about the #Zelda #OcarinaofTime remake’s age rating and what it means:

Can Aside Quests be made unwinnable in #HyruleWarriors #AgeofImprisonment on #Switch2? Find out in our video here:
Isn’t it ‘great’ when YouTube decides to automatically dub videos and butchers them with AI?
Apparently it thinks the #SuperMario64 intro clip is Romanian, and butchers Mario’s line with a generic AI voice:
New interview folks. This one is with #Zelda YouTuber Triforce Times https://gamingreinvented.com/interview/lets-interview-zelda-youtuber-triforce-times/
It’s interesting to think about how many movies and TV shows could be ruined by smartphones and the internet, isn’t it?
Like, so many horror films and episodes ran on the premise that the town they were in had a dark secret and the inhabitants weren’t human. Or that some strange local was actually a monster and no-one believed the protagonists.
Good luck getting away with that in the era of smartphones, live-streaming and the internet in general!
Seems like a new Nintendo movie is coming in 2028. What do you expect it to be?
https://gamingreinvented.com/news/nintendo-illumination-releasing-movie-in-2028/
Have to be honest, never liked how many social media platforms just ban anyone who was controversial/implicated in questionable behaviour elsewhere.
Like yes you don’t want to support criminals, but sometimes they still do good work in their field. It’s not impossible to find books and films and TV shows by creators that turned out to be terrible people, like a certain wizard related franchise.
Personally, I think the best way to handle this is…
Not gonna lie, if saying your birthday is a security risk because of those silly ‘security questions’, your security is awful.
Like, you know 2 factor authentication and strong passwords exist right? And that you shouldn’t actually give real answers to these questions and should instead use them like extra passwords, right?
It’s 2026. It’s not hard to find out someone’s personal info online. Stop using it as a security tool.
