NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist Things feel a bit...fraught at the moment, and we have a tendency to forget that there's a good number of us who believe in the right things. So with that in mind, next week's theme will be: We All Stand Together Now, it *could* be two straight hours of The Frog Chorus, or you could let me know where the theme takes your brane, and sling it at me with #ThePlaylistSuggestion. Let's spend a couple of hours remembering that we're all in it together. // https://stream.djdarren.site // Monday 19:00-21:00 UK // // https://djdarren.site/archive/podcast/ //

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist It's Australia day (today), and while I don't necessarily wish to endorse colonialism, it is worth noting that Australia has produced some absolute bangers. So with that in mind, next week's theme is: A Land Down Under Though it's fair to point out that the theme doesn't necessarily mean you have to suggest Australian/antipodean acts. Let the theme take your brane where it may. Sling your suggestions at me with #ThePlaylistSuggestion, and together we'll put together a bonza show mate. // https://stream.djdarren.site // Monday 19:00-21:00 UK // // https://djdarren.site/archive/podcast/ //

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist, a guest theme from @losttourist@social.chatty.monster... Here in the northern hemisphere, the nights are beginning to draw in, the temperatures are beginning to drop, so when better to choose the theme of: Horticulture We realise that you lot don't look like your average horti-bleedin-culturalists, but you surely know some songs about plants and trees and that. And no weed-shaming on our watch! Remember, a weed is just a plant you didn't grow on purpose! Sow your suggestions in the fertile grounds of #ThePlaylistSuggestion, and let them grow into beautiful beanstalks, upon which my giant bot will gobble them all up. // https://stream.djdarren.site // Monday 19:00-21:00 UK // // https://djdarren.site/archive/podcast/ // #Podcast #NowPlaying #Music #Radio

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org My solitary suggestion (cos there are a tremendous set of ideas coming from everyone else) is Kate Bush - Hounds of Love. #ThePlaylistSuggestion

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org Oh I know I said "just one" but if you'll allow me to linger in your bed for a couple of minutes, we could be joined there by Duke Ellington playing Passion Flower. (when my dad died, we found a couple of dozen jazz CDs when clearing out his flat. He never once to my knowledge ever mentioned he enjoyed that sort of music, and I knew next to nothing about the genre but took them away with me and over time have become quite fond of it). #ThePlaylistSuggestion #Jazz #BigBand

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist, we want to hear your favourite: Three Minute (or thereabouts) Pop Bangers Nothing more complicated than that. Just good quality tunes that refuse to outstay their welcome. Let's see how many we can squeeze in to our two hours. Fling your (maximum of) four suggestions this way using #ThePlaylistSuggestion and my obedient hooverbot will suck them up for my later perusal and judgement. You can also send this link to anyone you know IRL who wants to take part, but doesn't use Mastodon: https://djdarren.site/archive/suggestions/ // https://stream.djdarren.site // Monday 19:00-21:00 UK // // https://djdarren.site/archive/podcast/ // #Podcast #NowPlaying #Music #Radio

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org @RealAleRocks@mastodon.social The shuffle called and suggested Robyn Hitchcock & the Egyptians – "Tell Me About Your Drugs" https://musiccloud.io/I2GBG #ThePlaylistSuggestion

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org Has anyone on #ThePlaylistSuggestion chosen Bon Jovi's "Bad Medicine" yet? If not, that will be my submission. I hope you and @Troggie@beige.party thoroughly enjoy the Discworld Con!

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org @RealAleRocks@mastodon.social #ThePlaylistSuggestion is pharmacy, and it seems like these folks would belong there. Morphine – "Cure for Pain" https://musiccloud.io/nZtV9

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org @RealAleRocks@mastodon.social The pharmacy also seems to be a place where you might pick up these helpful items Buffalo Tom – "Crutch" https://musiccloud.io/Z1r6f Phish – "Tweezer" https://musiccloud.io/Scvvc Chromeo – "Clorox Wipe" https://musiccloud.io/UlxmV #ThePlaylistSuggestion

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist There will be no next week! Because we'll be at Discworld Con and I'm far too lazy to pre-record a show. But... ON THE 17TH OF AUGUST ON #ThePlaylist... Yet another guest theme, this time from @RealAleRocks@mastodon.social and Ben Gray, who, because they're drug dealers or they work in a pharmacy or something, would like to suggest: Pharmacy A terribly difficult one, I know, as there are basically no songs about drugs. HOWEVER, they're ACTUALLY asking for songs about a pharmacy. So bear that in mind. Or not. Whatever. I'm not your mum. Dispense your suggestions this way with #ThePlaylistSuggestion, and with any luck we'll get high on our own supply. // https://stream.djdarren.site // Monday 19:00-21:00 UK // // https://djdarren.site/archive/podcast/ // #Music #Podcast #Drugs #BootsTheChemistCanPissUpARope

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org#ThePlaylistSuggestion You go to the pharmacy when you have a headache Frank Black - Headache From the pharmacopeia side of things Pulp - Sorted for Es and Whiz And other things Madness - House of fun

Going to throw my wizzard hat in the ring and suggest some music with rocks in for this week's #ThePlaylistSuggestion as you may have guessed the theme is #TerryPratchett Sturgill Simpson – "Turtles All the Way Down" https://musiccloud.io/4fHvw Bishop Allen – "Cue the Elephants" https://musiccloud.io/eM7V6 one in honor of "Blackboard Monitor" Vimes Mission of Burma – "Blackboard" https://musiccloud.io/qInpR The Muffs – "Red Eyed Troll" https://musiccloud.io/IjOdz this one goes out to the clacks Stereolab – "Daisy Click Clack" https://musiccloud.io/Z-lKM

NEXT WEEK on #ThePlaylist I'm off to Discworld Con in a couple of weeks, so next week I think it's only fair that the theme should be: The Discworld Songs about wizards, and flying turtles, and DEATH, and THE DEATH OF RATS, will abound. Or just songs about discs, or worlds. Are there any flat Earth bangers? Sling them this way using #ThePlaylistSuggestion, and together we'll spend two hours attempting to make the memory of Sir Pterry proud. // https://stream.djdarren.site // Monday 19:00-21:00 UK // // https://djdarren.site/archive/podcast/ // #GnuTerryPratchett #Podcast #Music #DWCon26

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist The esteemed @FloatingOnion@cyberplace.social has floated on in with a guest suggestion of: Hero (or Heroes) Either way, he wants to hear YOUR most heroic tunes. He wants to hear songs that'll save people from a burning building, or have the capability to leave the last chocolate Hob Nob in the packet. Fling your suggestions this way using #ThePlaylistSuggestion and together we'll build a big, strapping radio show that'll get all of the stuck cats out of all the trees. // https://stream.djdarren.site // Monday 19:00-21:00 UK // // https://djdarren.site/archive/podcast/ // #Radio #Podcast #Music

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org Oh dear, I'm sorry but you know I can't resist cheese. Would you please be so kind as to consider playing Jukebox Hero by Foreigner. #ThePlaylist #ThePlaylistSuggestion

#thePlaylistSuggestion Someone has already suggested a couple of songs linked to Cú Chulainn but here's my favourites for that hero: Horslips - Dearg Doom Horslips - Faster than the Hound (Roll Back version) Plus: Donovan - Sunshine Superman Andy Irvine - Forgotten Hero

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org Right then. One for "Electric" and one for "Dreams": OMD - Tesla GirlsClassix Nouveaux - Is It A Dream and of course because both of those fall into the synth pop genre, which I'm sure numerous music journos have written about using "Electric Dreams" as their headline, they're double winners. Also because I know everyone tends to stay away from the obvious, I can't not mention Phil & Giorgio, can I. #ThePlaylistSuggestion #ThePlaylist

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist After this week's shambolic with the theme, we figured it might be good to land on firmer ground that we couldn't possibly bugger up, so with that in mind, next week's theme is: Electric Dreams Other than the obvious, what does that conjure in your mind? Fling your suggestions at #ThePlaylistSuggestion (and try to ensure that the posts are public, because my greedy little bot is respectful of privacy and won't see them). We're looking forward to seeing where this one goes! // https://stream.djdarren.site // Monday 19:00-21:00 UK // // https://djdarren.site/archive/podcast/ // #Podcast #NowPlaying #Music

@DJDarren@mendeddrum.org#theplaylistsuggestion My David Attenborough themed suggestions for this week: Queen - Now I'm here (because of his catchphrase 'Here...',) Public Service Broadcasting - ROYGBIV (because of his role in promoting colour television) Embrace - Nature's law (because nature and stuff) Until watching the Life on Earth documentary the other day, I hadn't ever considered why he always says 'Here..', but now get that having travelled all over the world to get to remote locations, _here_, i.e. not in studio in a London, is a pretty big deal that needs to be emphasised to the viewer.
