However you could colour me gobsmacked when @DJDarren@mendeddrum.org played the original on #ThePlaylist the other week. I had no idea that the Buggles version was a cover (well, sorta) ...

This will be maybe less polished than Britney, but far more heartfelt. Yes, Heather!

Can someone please come and collect their creepy blue sex robot.
It's somehow escaped its sandbox and is on the #TOTP stage.

@girlabtvillage@mas.to Hmm but no. She was touring for almost the whole of 2000, but the UK and European leg didn't start until October.
No idea how she managed to pop over into the #TOTP studio between US tour dates, to be honest.

@Bez_Lightyear@crispsandwi.ch Understandable. He's a sex bomb, you don't want to be too close in case he goes off. #TOTP

Oh #TOTP, you had to go and kill the vibe didn't you.
It is, it has to be said, an extremely polished performance. Britney worked for her success. #TOTP

@pdcawley@mendeddrum.org I blame Messrs Stock, Aitken and Waterman. They probably brought in an actual choreographer and insisted the 'nanas practice. #TOTP
Oh, and:

One-hit wonder tune, but what a hit.

There's a cover version of this on the soundtrack to the film 10 Things I Hate About You and, I'm afraid, I prefer that version. #TOTP

@jess@blop.social Ooh that sounds interesting. Although Grace Jones has so much made it her own, I'm imagine even FGTH fades by comparison. #TOTP

Don't forget there's a "Pet Shop Boys at the BBC" on immediately after the Pops tonight.
And also to continue that nostalgia blast, BBC Four tomorrow has two programmes to mark the 50th anniversary of Multi Coloured Swap Shop. See you there for that one!

@girlabtvillage@mas.to I'm wondering if she had a UK/European tour. Might also explain the microphone which looks far better suited to 15,000-seater arenas than the #TOTP studio, too.
Are those kids behind Lena on drugs?
It's the only possible explanation.

(not me in 1979 though, I was only 9 years old!)
Legs & Co must have had to rush on at the last moment, they forgot to put on their dresses so they're on stage just in slips.
