Today in Labor History July 26, 1944: The Red Army liberated Lviv, Ukraine, from the Nazis. Only 300 Jews survived the Nazi occupation out of 160,000 who were living there before the Nazi invasion. The occupation is depicted in several books, including Robert Marshall’s “The Sewers of Lvov” (1991) and Krsytyna Chiger’s memoir “The Girl in the Green Sweater” (2007). Polish director Agnieszka Holland’s film “In Darkness,” which was nominated for an Oscar, is based on these two books. #workingclass #LaborHistory #nazis #fascism #holocaust #redarmy #russia #soviet #ussr #ukraine #books #fiction #historicalfiction #author #writer #film @bookstadon@a.gup.pe

An abandoned Soviet-era military engineering school. Abandoned since the early 1990s, when Latvia asserted independence from the USSR. This school was built in the 1960s to train engineers and scientists for the Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic Armed Forces. Now, it is an empty relic relegated to history. https://www.obsidianurbexphotography.com/military/soviet-radio-electronics-school-latvia/ #Latvia #History #AbandonedPlaces #Urbex #Soviet #USSR #Abandoned

34 years ago today, the #SovietUnion officially ceased to exist. December 26, 1991 Apologies to #tankies (not really) but it was a very good thing Not liking the #Soviet Union has nothing to do with loving #capitalism or loving the #West, it's about despising #imperialism Anyone who has a problem with my sentiment: Talk to someone who lived in #EasternEurope or under the Soviet umbrella We must defeat #plutocracy in the West The Soviet way is not the way Happy #SovietUnionCollapseDay
