#TorontoON - #Site3CoLaboratory
"#Site3 #CoLaboratory is a volunteer run #MakerSpace in #Toronto’s west end, at Ossington and Bloor.
The shop is 2000 square feet and is fully equipped with #woodworking tools, #metalworking tools, #3DPrinters, electronics and more! See our 'Tools & Materials' page for more info and a complete tool list.
The vision for our organization is to provide an inclusive space that promotes a four step cycle of create, display, teach and inspire.
- Build and maintain an inspiring space and community that provides members with access to the right tools and knowledge to create anything they can think of.
- Display, promote, and support member made projects.
- Teach new #skills through regular events, #workshops, and #classes.
- Inspire communities to bring their projects to life with our #CollectiveKnowledge, tools, and support.
- Interested in learning more? Come by Site 3 for a tour any Thursday between 7-10pm!
Membership

As Lou Doyle observes, whatever we think of recent pronouncements & proposals from Andy Burnham on skilled education....
'Nobody should expect a devolved skills strategy to undo a class-coded hierarchy that’s taken decades to settle. It will fail if we once again place the solutions to broader societal challenges on the shoulders of teachers'!
Spot on: once again it blames the victims for class-based structural inequality!

As Sarah O'Connor (FT) points out when we think about the future of specific jobs/professions (in the face of technological change) we need to factor in what she calls "anticipatory obsolescence' - the tendency of your people to look at the prospective future & shape their educational paths on that basis;
thinking a certain job has no future reduces the incentive to train for it & in a sense becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as skilled practitioners decline....

A minute ago I took a look at this repository https://github.com/skorotkiewicz/earth-game/tree/main It’s author prepared local-only, simple gamified version of TODO/personal planner that has to help reaching personal goals. It seems quite interesting and for sure I’m gonna give it a try. But the project reminded me that some time ago I was looking for an app/approach that will resemble personal goals (specifically widely understood skills) as Skill Tree widely known from all RPGs. Do you know any such project? Do you use it and it’s any helpful or it’s just pure fun?
