I always feel unsure about posting script snippets because #ScreenReaders. Perhaps I should post screenshots and just explain what the snippet does in the #AltText. Yeah?

Screen readers mostly don't read the rendered screen. They read the accessibility tree through platform APIs and feed a speech queue. Once that sinks in, a lot of "why does it announce that" bugs make sense. #accessibility #a11y #screenreaders https://www.maxdesign.com.au/articles/do-screen-readers-read-screen.html

@rhold@norden.social @nixCraft@mastodon.social@christianrickert@23.social Seems #screenreaders are considered: "Screen readers skip protected regions (they're removed from the accessibility tree), so nobody hears a decoy read aloud. [Options are either to] ship your real words encrypted into the page behind a time-lock puzzle the reader's browser grinds out on request (default budget 20 seconds of their CPU, 7.6 s measured in Chrome; nothing to host) [or to] point at a build-time recording you make."

I am having a problem signing in to my Ebay account. It keeps asking me to check a checkbox. I do so, and then, it gives me an inaccessible captcha with no audio alternative. I tried this on Windows 7, 10, and 11, with Firefox and Supermium, and nothing changes. I can't even read their accessibility page because it asks me to sign in and sending me back to the captchas! Is there a trustworthy captcha solver that works with NVDA or a way around this? Alternatively, does anyone here know of another site that sells vintage and antique things, or even another ebay replacement in general? I've been with them for over twenty years as a buyer, but if I need to change sites, I will do so. This is ridiculous! #accessibility #blind #captchas #Ebay #Firefox #inaccessibility #NVDA #ScreenReaders #Supermium #technology #Windows7 #Windows10 #Windows 11
