#pyconau

Does anyone have any good photos of me from #PyConAU? @garthk@eigenmagic.net @sophie@cloudisland.nz (I don’t know if Patrick is on here) or anyone else?

Hi #PyConAU - does anyone else watch talk recordings much better with company? I'm running a casual watch party tonight (7:30pm AEST) in the Python Australia Community Server discord - https://www.pythonaustralia.org/ Currently starting off with Justin Warren's Saturday keynote The Care of Software: Ethics and Ecosystems, and then two more after that, open to suggestions and voting!

After some unpacking: #PyConAU 2026 speaker mug has been installed. And, thanks to a contribution from @grahamdumpleton@mastodon.social, the set is now complete, replacing a 2011 mug that was accidentally purged some years ago (I was on a Web frameworks panel, so this isn’t stolen valor!!)

This concludes my #PyconAU livetooting. Any further mentions will be CW’d as a courtesy to your timelines.

"Even if you get away from the Elon Musk of it all, Australians have their own ideas about how they live their life that are very different to Americans." —Cam Wilson #PyConAU This is really immediately the most evident with how a lot of tech products treat expletives. I've literally ditched speech to text software because it just would not let me send texts to my friends with a normal Australian amount of swearing.

Feels like a hopeless battle against LLMs at #PyConAU today. Every talk I've been to is either directly encouraging agent use or offhand mentioning how it was used their project. I worry the disclaimer in my talk tomorrow may not got down well...

If day drinking at conferences wasn’t an obscenely bad idea I’d suggest a drinking game based around on-stage utterances of “human in the loop”. #PyConAU

Me eating breakfast in my hotel in Brisbane before the opening day of #PyConAU while on the TV in the corner, the Premier of the very state I’m visiting extols the virtues of not just AI but also fossil fuels, and talks about how great it is that he’s convinced the Prime Minister to allow Queensland to use coal and gas to power AI data centres:

It’s 3:45 am, so of course I’m on my way to the airport for #PyConAU. Reading toots about everyone having a great time at #djangoconUS. Really miss my US Django crew, but looking forward to seeing my AU people.

@pyconau@mastodon.pycon.org.au attendees in Brisbane! Please help me gauge how many of the one or more stickers below for me to share at #PyconAU #PyconAU2026 (image in previous post)
