#Ikea displaying a book by David and Leigh Eddings in a staged children's bedroom is a HELL of a thing to notice.
My plan to read Horrorstör in Ikea was finally fulfilled at Ikea Canberra's first Silent Book Club last week.
I sat in a display lounge room reading about a group of customer service staff trying to survive a night shift at Orsk, an Ikea-type furniture store. Interspersed with the story are posters of retail values and catalogue ads of furniture that become more deranged throughout the book.
Open to suggestions about the next book to bring to #Ikea.

Amazing, blåhaj now has a manual! But it's not a manual for assembling your friendly plush shonk, but instead, a trans 101 manual for cis folk, telling them how they can be supportive of the trans people in their life!

IKEA will lay off a total of 850 employees, including 300 in its Swedish operations, according to Dagens Industri. CFO Henrik Elm said the cuts are part of a push for faster decision‑making, shorter pathways and reduced complexity. This marks the third round of reductions in under two months; in March the company notified 945 workers of layoffs and recently announced the closure of its department store in Borlänge. The latest layoffs mainly affect the Älmhult and Malmö locations.

IKEA’s 2026 PS (Post Scriptum) Collection—a playful, functional lineup of 44 pieces—has arrived, offering budget‑friendly yet design‑forward options for homes and home offices. Highlights include a convertible chair‑bed that folds into a full‑length mattress with pocket‑spring support, a two‑person sofa‑bed, a solid‑pine rocking bench, a flexible lamp with 45° swivel points, a ratchet‑adjustable stool, a bird‑house‑inspired bedside table, a sturdy folding desk that collapses via signature red wing screws, a pink metal‑mesh cabinet with integrated lighting, a mobile powder‑coated trolley, and a submarine‑periscope‑style table clock. The collection, first previewed at Milan Design Week, continues IKEA’s tradition of low‑price, design‑focused “PS” releases, now marking its tenth edition.

This means that I can’t set up automations in the Apple Home app like ‘if power consumption drops then send a push notification’.
Yes, I can always use Homey or Home Assistant, but that negates the point of trying to keep things on one ecosystem.

In further IKEA smart home adventures, I also picked up some of the Grillplats smart plugs. There’s both good and bad sides to these…
-
They are seriously cheap.
-
You can get them bundled with a smart switch at a further discount, but they don’t work with each other out of the box.
-
Apple’s Home app won’t give you energy consumption info. For that, you need to use IKEA’s own hub and app (or a third party one like Homey or Home Asst).
