#linux #diday #didit #bigtech #rampreise #bloatware

It’s actually unbelievable: just for fun, I decided to go through the entire Windows 11 installation process on my new MSI Cubi. Let’s see how it goes these days. What can I say? Unbelievable! It took almost TWO HOURS just for the initial updates before I could even start setting it up! Are Microsoft’s servers that slow? The download took forever, not to mention the installations… And then the worst part: the pre-installed bloatware! Dozens of crappy third-party programs—and of course, they all want your data and a subscription… But Microsoft takes the cake: 22 (!!!) installations of Office 365 in the respective national languages! And each one is around 7 GB! That’s just 150 GB for a piece of junk software! And uninstalling each Office installation takes several minutes... I’m going to stick with this crap anyway, just because I want to know how much of my life setting up Windows 11 with MSI’s bloatware is going to waste today. The day’s already gone to hell anyway. #linux #minipc #msi #bloatware #windows #microsoft #opensource #freesoftware #crap

"...Google Chrome is reaching into users' machines and writing a 4 GB on-device AI model file to disk without asking. The file is named weights.bin. It lives in OptGuideOnDeviceModel. It is the weights for Gemini Nano, Google's on-device LLM. Chrome did not ask. Chrome does not surface it. If the user deletes it, Chrome re-downloads it." https://www.thatprivacyguy.com/blog/chrome-silent-nano-install/ 😡 #ai #climatemergency #bloatware
